Eight Colts Named Premium at 2025 Hanoverian Stallion Licensing

Hanoverian

Eight 2.5-year old colts were named premium stallion at the 2025 Hanoverian Stallion Licensing Verden, on Saturday 22 November 2025.

A collection of 88 colts was initially selected for the Licensing, but 76 colts ended up being presented; 39 of them were licensed. A group of 8 was selected for the premium title. The Hanoverian society no longer names a licensing champion.

Hattrick for Opoque

Australian Olympian Kristy Oatley's Dutch warmblood stallion Opoque (by All at Once x Davino VOD) stood out as a sire as he had three of his sons licensed and two were named premium. Amongst them is Onatopp (by Opoque x Bon Bravour) who is also owned by Oatley and bred by Christina Beuke. The chestnut has been named after the female villain Xenia Onatopp from the James Bond movie GoldenEye.

The second premium colt by Opoque was 2M2 Opalescence who is out of Darina (by De Niro x Prince Thatch xx). This dam also produced premium stallion Energy (by Escamillo). This colt is bred and owned by 2M2 Horses from Schweden and sold for 135,000 euro to Landgestut Celle.

The third Opoque was one out of a Christ dam, bred by ZG Lange and owned by Romina Capezzuto from Florida, USA. He sold at auction for 60,000 euro to the Landgestut Warendorf.

Vivaldos Double

The most expensive stallion of the auction following the licensing was the bred premium colt TH Vivaldo (by Vivaldos x Revolution x Ferro), bred by Thorhauge Horses in Demark and owned Henrik Amby's company Nordentoft ApS. Andreas Helgstrand, who has kept his wallet strikingly closed since the turmoil in 2023, swiped his credit card again and paid 500,000 euro to secure the stallion for his breeding station.

Gerd Sosath's breeding stallion Vivaldos (by Vivaldi x Desperados) also sired a second premium stallion: the still nameless Vivaldos x De Niro x Lauries Crusador xx, bred by Roman Bravenec and owned by the duo Schulte-Märter and Schwierking. Sosath purchased this colt at auction for 90,000 euro.

V-Blood

The premium ring in Verden was dominated by V-blood with four out of 8 colts from the V-line.

The nameless colt by Valdiviani x Feinrich was named premium. He is bred by Dr. Norbert Grittern and owned by Theo Lenzen. He became the second most expensive horse of the auction, selling for 365,000 euro to Aaron Janicki in the U.S.A.

Helgstrand bought a second colt at the auction, the still nameless premium stallion by Viva Vitalis x Dante's Junior, for 350,000 euro. This colt is bred by Hendrik Schäfer.

The premium ring was further made up of Fenomenal (by Feliciano x Fürst Romancier), bred by ZG Muhle and owned by Judith Koeppel. He was not for sale.

The nameless premium colt by Livaldon x Diamond Hit, bred by Elisabeth Albers, sold for XXX to Landgestüt Celle.

Licensed Lot

The fourth most expensive colt of the auction was the non-premium licensed KWPN colt Thumbs Up PP (by Vitalis x Toto Jr x Ferro), bred in The Netherlands by Stal Poppelaars and owned by the breeder in partnership with Hüffer. he sold for 160,000 euro.

The nameless licensed colt by Extreme US x Dancier, bred by Elizabeth Kapp, sold for 140,000 euro, while Brits secured the licensed danish warmblood bred Danny Ocean (by Donkey Boss x Wilkens x Don Schufro), bred by Stutteri Sobakkehus and owned by Hesselhoj.

Of the six colts that were sired by Escaneno and presented in Verden, no less than five were licensed. However none were named premium.

The Escaneno x Livaldon, bred and owned by Bernhard Sieverding, sold for 110,000 euro, while the Escaneno x Baron, bred by Kea Hencken and owned by Veronika Wieghaus-Vorwerk, sold for 84,000 euro.

Non-Licensed

The most expensive non-licensed stallion was the black D'Egalité x Duke of Oldenburg, bred by Frauke Reichert and owned by the breeder and Anneli Brunckhorst. He sold for 78,000 euro to Germany.

The Austrian bred and owned buckskin non-licensed colt Just Champagne (by Just Wimphof x Quantensprung x Floriscount) attracted a buyer's interest from the UAE and sold for 70,000 euro. He is bred by Ursula Kasberger.

The non-licensed bright bay KWPN bred Torino (by McLaren x Desperado, bred by D. van Norel Prins, sold for 60,000 euro.

The average price for the 36 licensed stallions offered for sale was 82,444 euro. The 33 non-licensed stallions fetched an average price of 25,455 euro.
