2025 Swedish Dressage Championships

Children rider Esther Brandberg, junior rider Ebba Wallin Ivarsson, young rider Wilma Bornhager, Under 25 rider Cecilia Bergakra, and senior Grand Prix rider Patrik Kittel became the winners of the 2025 Swedish Dressage Championships held in Stromsholm on 6 - 8 June 2025.

Sweden held its FEI Pony Championships last week at a separate event. Ronja Kardos was the winner.

Youth: Brandberg, Wallin Ivarsson, Bornhager

The gold medal in the children division for 12 to 14 year old riders went to Esther Brandberg and the 11-year old Swedish bred Kardinal (by Diarado x Continue). She developed a significant lead in the final two rounds (83.775% in the team test, 82.329% in the individual test) after placing third in the preliminary test with 70.459%

In the junior division, 27 combinations competed in the first two rounds and fifteen moved forwards to round three, the freestyle. The overall winner was 17-year old Ebba Wallin Ivarsson who was the only one to score three times over seventy. With the 7-year old Swedish bred Fasinate KR (by For Emotion x Don Schufro) she scored 70.404%, 70.686% and 76.04%.

Twenty-one pairs competed in the Young Riders division and 15 moved to the freestyle final. The national title was for Wilma Bornhager aboard the 19-year old Hanoverian Rosenstolz (by Rotspon x De Niro). The pair improved throughout the weekend, first scoring 68.725% in the team test, then 70.539% in the individual and finally placing second in the Kur with 74.06%. They had the highest overall total for gold.

U25 Grand Prix: Cecilia Bergakra

In the Under 25 Grand Prix division 13 pairs competed and nine rode both rounds. Last year's bronze medal winner Cecilia Bergåkra on the 14-year old Swedish bred My Friend (by Friendship x Troll) were now good for gold after winning both round with 70.214% and 74.535%.

German based Ellen Hedbys and the 13-year old Oldenburg mare Sonnenkönigin (by Roi du Soleil x Sir Donnerhall) collected silver with 70% and 72.655% earning tests. Hedbys trains with her life partner, Australian Olympian William Matthew. Siri Ehnrooth and the 15-year old Danish warmblood Møgelbjergs Romeo (by Rush Hour x Don Romantic) picked up bronze after a silver medal last uear. She posted 69.145% ad 73.185%. Last year's winner, Evelina Söderstrom on Cilantro, landed fifth place this time.

Senior Grand Prix: 12th Title for Patrik Kittel

Traditionally the Swedish Grand Prix Championships are a fixture for Patrik Kittel to easily expands his string of consecutive titles in the absence of the majority of squad riders (Lexner, Wahlkamp-Nilsson, Nilshagen, Von Essen, Ramel, Vilhelmson, Darcourt, etc...) who rarely (or never) bother to make the trip to the Nationals.

This year it was no different. Kittel cruised to his 12th title aboard the 13-year old Westfalian mare Forever Young HRH (by Furst Fugger x Don Bosco). He scored 74.217% in the Grand Prix and 79.13% in the Kur. Kittel has now equalled Ulla Hakanson in having achieved the record of 12 Swedish Grand Prix Champion's titles. Next year he can beat her.

At Grand Prix level only two rounds were ridden. Twenty riders did the Grand Prix, 13 moved forward to the freestyle. The silver medal went to Cecilia Bergåkra aboard the 16-year old Izack (by Zack x Donnerfly). They posted 68.152% in the Grand Prix and 73.515% in the Kur. Vendela Eriksdotter Rubin and the 19-year old Bonafide (by Universeel x Kennedy) got the bronze with 67.609% and 71.79%.
