Novara MB and Sherazade von der Aue, 2020 Austrian Warmblood Mare Champions

The 3-year old Novara MB and the 4-year old Sherazade von der Aue became the winners of the 2020 Austrian Warmblood Mare Championship held in Stadl Paura, Austria, on Friday 18 September 2020. 

Twenty-six mares in total competed in the 3- and 4-year old divisions and they were judged by Germans Hans Heinrich Brüning and Helmut Feigl.

Eleven dressage bred 3-year old mares were presented and seven were invited to compete in the Champion's ring. Brüning, who judged at the 2019 edition as well, said, "Austrian breeders can be proud of their crop. Clear progress has been made."

The champion was Novara MB (by Florenz x Fairbanks), bred and owned by Barbara and Michael Hager. She scored a total of 8.6 points and was praised for her "nobility an excellent trot. The walk is above average." Brüning further commented that, "it doesn't happen often in a breeder's life that one breeds such a mare."

The reserve champion is Glimmer (by Furst Theodor x Samba Hit II), bred by Andreas Winter and owned by Wenzel and Edda Schmidt of Bartlgut. The mare scored 8.4 and was praised for her beautiful uphill silhouette and exceptional trot.

In the 4-year old division Hans-Jörg and Ulrike Gasser's mare Sherazade von der Aue (by Borsalino out of Shall we Dance (by Sandro Hit x Donnerhall x Pik Bube I) was named the champion with a score of 8.6. The judges were impressed by her from the first moment. "Also at second and third glance she convinced us. This is a top modern mare with ideal body, super hindquarters and very harmonious in her conformation. She is dry on the legs, nice freedom in the elbows and with a very elastic body."

The reserve champion was Rose of Killarney EH (by Honoré du Soir x Rohdiamant x Akzent II. Bred and owned by Hedwig Eder, she scored 8.5 points. Judge Feigl said that she has "a large frame and is an impressive mare who moves with freedom, cadence, elasticity and who is very balanced."
