Jane and Dick Brown

Jane Brown, a former prominent sponsor of U.S. dressage and widow of Dick Brown, has passed away on 6 January 2021 after a period of illness. She was 86 years old

Born 9 July 1934, Jane was married to the late Dick Brown. Originally from New York and Connecticut, the couple made their fortune in the jewellery business and after their retirement developed a keen interest in dressage.

Commuting between Carlsbad, CA and New York, NY, the couple first met German born American dressage rider Guenter Seidel at the Rancho Riding Club in Santa Fe, Calif. and agreed to sponsor him. Their collaboration was one of the longest standing ones in U.S. dressage history. After 23 years they ended their involvement in horses in 2011.

The Browns were the owner of all of Seidel's top Grand Prix horses, including Graf George (team bronze 1996 Atlanta Olympics), Foltaire (team bronze 2000 Sydney Olympics), Aragon (team bronze 2004 Athens Olympics, team bronze 2006 World Equestrian Games) and Nikolaus (team silver 2002 World Equestrian Games). Seidel also rode the Brown owned horses Wolina, UII and Princeton.

Dick (83) passed on 5 September 2013 after a seven-year battle against leukemia. Jane followed him seven years later.
