Magna Charta (by Dream Boy x Sir Oldenburg) has been named the KWPN Mare Champion of 2020 at the KWPN Mare Championships in Ermelo, the Netherlands, on Saturday 15 August 2020.

Originally the KWPN Horse Days were cancelled due to the corona pandemic but as measures were relaxed in The Netherlands the KWPN society decided to host a slimmed down version of the Elite Mare Show in Ermelo.

Thirty-one mares in total participated and 9 were invited to the Champion's ring at the end of the day.

The mares were judged by Floor Dröge, Marian Dorresteijn and Johan Hamminga.

Magna Charta

The winner was Magna Charta, by Dream Boy out of elite mare Emybell, bred by Gerke van den Bosch and owned by Judith Ribbels.

Four years ago owner Miranda Huisman leased her mare Emybell to breeder Gerke van den Bosch, who matched her with Dream Boy and produced Magna Charta. The black filly was sold as a foal to dressage rider Judith Ribbels.

It was a grand victory for the black mare with the grand name of Magna Charta, named after the royal charter of rights agreed to by King John of England in 1215 to make peace between the unpopular king and a group of rebel barons.

"This complete mare stood out with her expression in front and uphill way of moving," said the KWPN.

My Toti DBG and Munette

The mare My Toti DBG, by Totilas out of elite mare Effie Olona (by Contango) was named the reserve champion. She is bred by Bax-Goris and owned by Ilona Goris.

She impressed the judges with her good walk.

Munette, by Franklin out of keur prefererent mare Unette II (by Gribaldi) was the third ranked mare. She is bred by René Franssen and owned by Nadja Lommers.

"We saw a very nice top group in the arena. They were complete mares which we enjoyed not only today but also at the breed shows. We are happy that we saw the future of dressage sport here in the arena," said judge Floor Dröge.
