Chain collision on the A27

German professional rider Marco List was involved in a serious car accident on the A27 motorway on 23 April 2020.

Driving Kerstin Klieber's two-horse lorry with a trailer attached and transporting four horses in total, List crashed into a container lorry as part of of a chain collision.

The chain collision took place between the Bremerhaven-Wulsdorf and Bremerhaven-Süd exits in the direction of Bremen around 15h30.

The driver of the second truck was brought to a clinic by rescue helicopter, but List, who is head rider at Stable Sandbrink, came out of the accident unscathed. His air bag went off.

The cause was apparently a semitrailer that wanted to drive on the hard shoulder due to technical problems.

According to Nord24.de, the motorway was completely closed until the evening hours to clear the debris. In addition to the police, 23 emergency services from the Bremerhaven professional fire brigade were deployed.

Kerstin Klieber, owner of the lorry and horses, told Eurodressage on Thursday evening that she was happy to hear her driver was OK. On first sight all horses are fine, but they will all get a thorough examination by the vet. Both the lorry and trailer are a total loss. "It was the trailer we won at the German Foal Championchip in Lienen in 2013," said Klieber.
