Kimi Nielsen Receives 2026 Lis Hartel Memorial Trophy

Kimi Nielsen, president of the Danish equestrian federation, became the recipient of the Lis Hartel Memorial Award at the 2026 Danish Dressage Championships in Randbol on 31 May 2026.

Nielsen was presented with the silver platter by Lis Hartel's granddaughter Nicole Siesbye Suhr and HRH Princess Benedikte.

"For many years you have been a significant figure in Danish dressage. With a background as a team leader, you have contributed with insight, overview and human understanding to creating the framework for performances at the highest level," said HRH Princess Benedikte.

The purpose is to support the sport of dressage in Denmark by recognizing individuals, riders, disabled riders or associations who have made an extraordinary effort to promote dressage.

The Lis Hartel Memorial Prize includes a 25,000 DKK cash prize, donated by "Dressurens Venner" (Friends of Dressage foundation).

Friends of Dressage recognize Kimi's efforts as chair of the Danish Federation during a period of increased debate and criticism of the sport.

"Kimi Nielsen is at the forefront in a time when the demands for leadership, accountability and direction are greater than ever. You have left an important mark on Danish dressage," HRH Benedikte concluded.

Nielsen was humbled being chosen the recipient of this award.

"I love horses. They are amazing creatures. I think equestrianism is a fantastic sport that has given me so many fantastic experiences," said Nielsen. "That's why I want to give something back, and that's why I've taken on this task , said Kimi Nielsen, referring to the fact that she is the chairman of the equestrian association. We owe it to the horse and the sport to handle the criticism that is directed at us."
