At the Danish Warmblood Association's board of representatives meeting in Herning on 18 April 2026, Mogens Pedersen was elected chairman of the association. He succeeds Jan Pedersen.
The auditorium in the MCH Messecenter Herning was full for the representatives meeting, where the association elected a new chairman for the first time since 1994. This meant that Pedersen's last chairman's report opened the meeting. It was his 34th annual report.
Sign the Code of Conduct
Pedersen stated that, "it is more fun to be chairman when times are favorable. They are not right now. Unfortunately, these are still difficult times for both horse breeding and horse sport, but it is gratifying at least that in relation to horse welfare we have come to a better place. This is due, among other things, to the fact that we have actually put action behind words and implemented a number of concrete measures to meet the criticism that has been received. We have taken the stinger out of the wound instead of ignoring the criticism, and therefore we are now apparently avoiding legislation in the area. But it doesn’t take much to bomb ourselves back again – back to the negative publicity where our “license to operate” is threatened. One bad case is all it takes."
Pedersen explained that all DV members now have to sign a code of conduct.
"Of course, we cannot make rules that completely ensure that bad cases are avoided, but we can have our regulations in place so that it is clear how any cases are handled, and then we can hope that the same regulations have a preventive effect. This is the reason why we have drawn up a contract that must be signed in order to participate in Danish Warmblood events. Here you confirm that you have read and accepted DV's terms and conditions and applicable regulations, including the Code of Conduct, rules for handling horses and disciplinary rules. You accept that participation is at your own risk and that decisions made by judges, TDs and other officials cannot be held liable.”
The terms of business referred to are “TERMS OF BUSINESS, CODE OF CONDUCT AND CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION IN ACTIVITIES UNDER DANISH WARMBLOOD”, which are already part of our rules of procedure.
Mogens Pedersen
Mogens Pedersen, who is also known as the dressage horse breeder of Straight Horse stud, was the only candidate running for election and got chosen.
" I owe Jan a big thank you, we have had good conversations, you have been responsive, and over the past year you have given me space to be involved in processes in Danish Warmblood. This means I feel well prepared to be chairman of the association," Mogens said at the meeting.
He continued, "there are signs that things are going incredibly well in Danish Warmblood, as you could see from the many medals and honours that were awarded today. For me, there is no doubt that it is in the regions that dreams are created, they are the lifeblood of our association. I have been on a trip around the regions; if I am elected, you will see me again soon. It is with great respect and humility towards Jan that I stand here today. I have a passion for horses, I am your elected chair, and I would like to claim that I know the numbers and know the industry. We must stabilize the economy in the association, and the positive trend has started in 2025. We must continue with them."
He added, "we must manage history with respect, develop with courage, do it together; with decency and responsibility."
