Blue Hors stud in Martofte, Denmark, has decided to geld two its breeding stallions - Baron and Santiano - in order to focus on their sport career.

Baron

Baron is a 2013 born Hanoverian by Benicio out of Snoopje (by Sir Donnerhall x Friedensfurst). He is bred by Albrecht Middelkampf in Germany.

The liver chestnut has been quite the globe trotter. He initially sold as a foal to Sweden at the 2013 Hanoverian Elite Foal Auction and was first approved for breeding at the 2016 Danish Warmblood Stallion Licensing. He successfully completed his 10-day observation test in Denmark. In the autumn of 2016 he was a high scorer at the 35-day Stallion Performance Test achieving more than 800 points.

In December 2016 Baron was purchased by Gestut Westfalenhof in Germany. They took him back to Denmark in March 2017 where he was licensed for life at the Danish Warmblood Stallion Licensing in Herning after a fantastic in hand and under saddle presentation.

The stallion stood up for stud at Westfalenhof and has been approved for Hanover, Oldenburg, Westfalen, Rhineland, all south German studbooks. He was only once competed by Kathrin Sudhölter in June 2017.

In January 2022 Baron sold to Blue Hors Stud and was twice competed by Cristian Tudela that year. In 2023 they showed once in Denmark.  As of 2024 Sophia Ludvigsen took over the ride and has been competing him more steadily and the horse made its international show debut, age 12, in March 2025 at the CDI Herning. They were second and third in the small tour/

Santiano

Santiano is a 2017 born Danish warmblood by Sezun out of Romanik (by Romanov). He is bred by Eva Götzsche and Mogens Pedersen of Straight Horse.

Straight Horse Santiano sold to Blue Hors as a youngster and his name changed to Blue Hors Santiano.

He became the third best scoring horse in the 2020 KWPN Stallion Performance Test with 87.5 points and was accepted for KWPN breeding. This approval implied a third name change to "My Blue Hors Santiano" to reflect the age of the horse through the KWPN letter system, starting with an M for 2017 born colts.

He became the most popular breeding stallion in The Netherlands, having covered the most mares in 2021 with 253 KWPN registered foals born in 2022. He was first presented under saddle by Gerrel Vink, but then Renate van Uytert-van Vliet took over the ride. The pair won the 2022 Pavo Cup Finals.

Merrald and Santiano in 2024
In February 2023 Santiano returned home to Denmark and Nanna Skodborg Merrald took over the training. She debuted him nationally in May 2023 and finished fourth at the 2023 Danish Young Horse Championships. In 2024 he competed in the 7-year old tests, placing 13th at the World Young Horse Championships in Ermelo, and third at the Danish Young Horse Championships in the Bundgaard Byg Cup.

His last show was in November 2024.

Gelded

Both stallions were gelded in September 2025 so they will continue as sport horses.

"Combining an intensive breeding schedule with competing at the highest level of sport is physically very demanding for a stallion. Therefore Santiano and Baron were gelded," Blue Hors stated. "Both have already contributed significantly to our breeding program, and the focus now shifts fully to their development in sport."
