Sophia Ludvigsen Returns to the Saddle After Accident

Danish Under 25 rider and professional dressage rider Sophia Ludvigsen has returned to the saddle after an accident which left her pelvic fractured.

The 22-year old Ludvigsen works at Blue Hors stud in Martofte, Denmark, as an assistant to Danish Olympian Nanna Skodborg Merrald. She began her international career on pony Kentris Afrodite (by Røgild's Kilimanjaro x Mufaq ox) in 2017, moved in the junior division in 2018 with Gorklintgaards Jericho (by Jazz x Sunny Boy), and into Young Riders in 2019 with Safari Klintgaard (by Sunny Boy x Don Schufro).

Ludvigsen officially began to ride and affiliate herself with Blue hors stud in 2020, initially as part of the "Blue Hors Talent Program" but then later as a paid team rider.

She first represented Denmark at the 2021 European Junior Riders Championships on Blue Hors Quintana (by Quantensprung x Desperados) and again at the 2022 and 2023 European Young Riders Championships on Blue Hors Elliott (by Erlando x Romanov). She moved into the U25 ranks at the end of 2023 and rode the 2024 European Under 25 Championships with Quintana, where she won individual gold.

Her last international start was at the CDI Herning in March 2025 at small tour level with breeding stallion Baron (by Benicio x Sir Donnerhall).

Accident

At the end of October Ludvigsen fractured her pelvis in an accident. It required surgery and numerous plates and pins to stabilize the fracture. Two and a half months later she has returned to the saddle.

"Today felt like a big step forward," said Sophia who rode golden oldie Blue Hors Zepter. "The last three months have been tough, and I’m deeply grateful for the support around me."
