2025 Belgian Young Horse Championships

The 4-year old Tea Time Himmerich, the 5-year old Proud to be Summer, the 6-year old Eleven NRW, and the 7-year old Sacramento van het Bloemenhof became the winners of the 2025 Belgian Young Horse Championships in Gesves on 15 - 17 August 2025.

This year the format for the Belgian Nationals followed that of the World Championships. The top seven horses in the preliminary test qualified directly for the final, while the top 3 of the consolation class also earned a ticket to the final. The results in the Finals test decided the medals.

4-YO: Tea Time Himmerich

Thirty three four year olds travelled to Gesves for the preliminary test in which no less than five got eliminated. The third placed pair from that test went on to become Belgian champions: German Pia Tönniges-Schneiders aboard Nathalie Backes' Oldenburg mare Tea Time Himmerich by Total McLaren x Escolar). The pair scored 8.8 for trot, 7.9 for walk, 8 for canter and submission and 8.4 for perspective/general impression to finish on a total average of 8.22 points.

The silver went to Sakina van Dijk on Belgian warmblood mare Violetta van het Bloemenhof (by Mister Diamond x Dante Weltino) with 8.18 points. The Belgian warmblood mare got 7.7 for walk, 8.6 for trot, 7.8 for canter, 8.5 for submission and 8.3 for perspective. Hungarian Benedek Pachl brought along Vince van het Hulsterhof (BWP, by Negro x Lord Loxley) and landed third plave with a total of 8,04. The black stallion got 8 for trot, 9 for walk, 7.8 for canter, 7.4 for submission and 8 for general impression.

5-YO: Proud to be Summer

Twenty-six 5-year olds came to Gesves and Soumy Verdeyen and the KWPN bred Proud to be Summer (by King Karim x Desperado) grabbed the title. After placing fifth in the preliminary round, they topped the board in the finals with a total of 8,04 points. The black stallion got 8.2 for trot, 7.6 for walk, 8.3 for canter, 7.9 for submission and 8.2 for perspective.

Belgian based American horse dealer, Jennifer Wetterau, piloted her own KWPN bred Pavano OD (by Geniaal x Apache) to silver with 7,92 points. Her gelding got 8.3 for trotn 8 for walk and canter, 7.4 for submission and 7.9 for perspective. Luxembourg based Belgian Jerome Schneiders got bronze on his home bred Oldenburg Lord Himmerich (by Lord Europe x Sandro Hit) with 7.88. This gelding got 8 for walk and canter, 8.1 for trot, 7.4 for submission and 7.9 for general impression.

6-YO: Eleven

Nineteen 6-year olds were presented in the first round and Belgian Olympian Flore de Winne became the winner aboard the Westfalian stallion Eleven (by Escamillo x Den Haag) on a score of 8,70. Bred by Roukaz Soufiah, the black stallion received 9.2 for trot, 8.1 for walk, 8.7 for canter, 8.3 for submission and 9.2 for perspective. De Winne bought Eleven for 155,000 euro at the 2023 Westfalian Autumn Auction. One week ago the pair competed at the World Young Horse Championships in Verden, where they finished 5th in the consolation finals with 8.12 points.

Schneiders continued raking in medals with Joelle Haupert's Westfalian mare Belaggia (by Belissimo M x Christ), bred by Luxembourg Grand Prix rider Mandy Zimmer. The pair totalled 8.48 points with 8.7 for trot, 8.2 for walk, 8.3 for canter, 8.4 for submission and 8.8 for perspective. Tokyo Olympic team reserve Alexa Fairchild and her KWPN bred Odin (by Furst Toto x United) got bronze with 8.4 points. The chestnut got 8.3 for trot, 8 for walk, 8.5 for canter and submission and 8.7 for perspective.

7-YO: Sacramento van het Bloemehof

The 7-year old division was the smallest division this year with 10 entries.

Grand Prix rider Suraya Hendrikx and the Belgian warmblood gelding Sacramento van het Bloemenhof (by Secret x Quaterback) aced the division and got the title with a 74.572% earning Finals test. 2016 Rio Olympian Jorinde Verwimp and Jana foets' KWPN bred Nixon (by Secret x Uphill) got silver with 71.457% while Flore de Winne and her recently acquired AES stallion Willem Normandi (by For Romance x Ferro) were third with 70.972%
