Martin Klavsen, the breeding manager at the Danish Blue Hors Stud, has handed in his resignation and will go independent.

Ridehesten first announced the news.

Going Pro

Martin Riisbjerg Klavsen has worked professionally with horses since he was 16 years old. He has built quite a trajectory in Denmark and Germany.

He first began handling and riding youngsters with Margit Ørum at Klosterheden, before working three years at Ib Kirk's Katrinelund stallion station.

He then began handling stallions at Blue Hors in 2012, but still wanted to apply himself more as a rider and moved to Germany. He rode for Holga Finken and Gestüt Bonhomme.

In 2014 he returned to Blue Hors, where he worked initially as a handler and trainer of the young colts and gradually moving into a more managerial position.

In 2019 he was officially appointed breeding manager and handled all the stallion/semen requests, pairing information, as well as the Blue Hors home breeding programme. He also travelled across Europe to scout for horses.

Blue Hors began its major downsize project in 2024, standing only five more stallions at stud.

After the Olympics it closed its doors at the big facility in Randbol and moved to Stutteri ASK where it operates on a much smaller scale

Independent

Martin has now decided to go independent as a breeding consultant and trainer, together with his life partner  Julie Kruse Hansen.

"Twelve great years and although it's hard to say goodbye to Blue Hors, I'm looking forward to the exciting times ahead," Klvasen stated.

Blue Hors posted, "Martin has been a driving force in shaping our stallion program and has played a key role in the acquisition and scouting of horses like Baron, Viva Vegas, Monte Carlo, Feinstar and Fortron. Throughout his time at Blue Hors, Martin became a well-known face in the breeding world, representing us at events, advising breeders, and developing our stallion program. We part ways on the best of terms and with great appreciation."

Klavsen's successor at Blue Hors has not been named, although it's unsure whether this position will be refilled considering the smaller scale of Blue Hors' breeding barn.
