Étoile Princière and Valentino AVE became the best sellers of the KWPN-Oldenburg Foal Auction held at 2025 Horses and Dreams on Friday 25 April 2025.

Joint Venture

For the first time, a joint studbook elite foal show auction was held at Horses & Dreams meets the Netherlands at Hof Kasselmann, organised by the Oldenburg Horse Breeding Association in cooperation with the KWPN.

The unprecedented cooperation between the two renowned breeding associations was due to this year's guest country of Horses & Dreams, explained the auction manager and managing director of Oldenburger Pferde-Vermarktungs GmbH, Roland Metz:

"It was tremendous fun, said Metz. "The Dutch were also on site with a dedicated team and certainly made a major contribution to the success of the auction. The different international pedigrees definitely enriched the blood variety of the collection and met with great interest."

Two Price Highlights

Etoile Princiere
On Friday evening, 21 carefully bred elite foals presented themselves to the interested public and waited eagerly for their bids. The majority of the collection was auctioned off on site in the show jumping stadium at Hof Kasselmann, with many sport riders taking the opportunity to secure a promising future talent.

Two foals were auctioned off for the top price of 24,000 euro: KWPN bred colt Valentino AVE (by Sarai L x Governor x Tuschinski)  and Oldenburg registered filly Étoile Princière (by Extreme U.S. x Baron x Bretton Woods). Both youngsters will remain in Germany. Valentino sold to Paul Schockemöhle.

The palomino Orpoulin (by Odin x Wolkentanz II) fetched 23,000 euro. The most expensive jumper was Casa Mia (by Casallco x Conthargos) which sold for 20,500 euro.

Vie d'Excellence (by One Million x Le Formidable) closed the ranks after only getting two bids (6,000 euro).

Sold Into Good Hands

In total, the lot of 21 foals was sold for 284,500 Euros, eight foals found sponsoring hands abroad. Auctioneer Christoph Rowold was also satisfied with the evening: ‘We had a very good atmosphere yesterday and many of the foals on offer were sold into good hands. I'm already looking forward to future success stories.’

Charity Auction

Right at the beginning and a second time during the course of the auction, Rowold's auction talents were in demand for two special artistic objects. A smaller version of the masterpiece ‘Olympic Dreams’ by artist Simone Beckmann, which sold for €50,000 at the last P.S.I. auction, achieved €10,000 in aid of the ‘Riding against Hunger’ initiative founded by Gudrun Bauer (Bauer Charity) and Ulli Kasselmann.

Metz and Rowold auctioning for charity
A hand-painted 9 litre SCAVI & RAY Spumante Magnum bottle, created especially for Hof Kasselmann by the talented artist Lydia Pudel from Herford, was admired by many bidders. Rowold's auction hammer struck at 9,000 euro. A very good result, in keeping with the charity-linked tradition of Horses & Dreams.
