2024 Swedish Dressage Championships

Children rider Ella Jerlin, junior rider Wilma Bornhager, young rider Mary-Sophie Haid-Bondergaard, Under 25 rider Evelina Söderström, and senior Grand Prix rider Patrik Kittel became the winners of the 2024 Swedish Dressage Championships held at Grevagården on 8 - 10 May 2024.

Sweden holds separate National FEI Pony Championships on a different date.

Youth: Jerlin, Bornhager, Haid-Bondergaard

The gold medal in the children division for 12 to 14 year old riders went to Ella Jarlin aboard the 8-year old SWF registered mare Madcap of Thille (by Iglatjärns Samson x Warsteiner). She developed a significant lead in the final two rounds (77.225% in the team test, 73.736% in the individual test) after placing second in the preliminary test with 75.709%

In the junior division, 29 combinations competed in the first round and fifteen moved forwards to round three, the freestyle. The overall winner was Wilma Bornhager aboard the 18-year old Hanoverian gelding Rosenstolz (by Rotspon x De Niro), who she only has been riding briefly. The experienced gelding piloted her to 71.566% in the team test, 72.206% in the individual and 74.625% in the Kur.

Mary-Sophie Haid-Bondergaard and her own 14-year old Hanoverian mare Adora Nightingale (by Ampere x Regazzoni) grabbed the gold medal on Sunday 10 May 2024 after gradually climbing the board in the Young Riders division. In the team test they were at 68.873% but then veered to the top of the score board with 71.52% in the individual test and 73.045% in the Kur. Thirty pairs competed in the first round

U25 Grand Prix: Evelina Söderström

In the Under 25 Grand Prix division ten pairs competed and nine rode both rounds.

Evelina Söderström became the national champion after winning both rounds. Aboard her own 17-year old Swedish warmblood gelding Cilantro (by Johnson x Hertug) she posted 71.538% int he first round and 72.89% in the second round.

Siri Ehnrooth and the 14-year old Danish warmblood Møgelbjergs Romeo (by Rush Hour x Don Romantic) were good for silver, while Cecilia Bergåkra on the13-year old Swedish bred My Friend (by Friendship x Troll) got bronze.

Senior Grand Prix: 11th Title for Patrik Kittel

Kittel ran virtually unopposed to his 11th Swedish Grand Prix Champion's title as non of his German/Dutch based team mates (Nilshagen, Ramel) feel the need to travel north for the Nationals. Also Swedish Olympic team candidate Maria von Essen was missing from the Nationals with her top horse Invoice.

Kittel brought his own and Arlette Jasper-Kohl's 12-year old Westfalian mare Forever Young HRH (by Furst Fugger x Don Bosco) and rode her two two winning scores of 73.783% in the Grand Prix and 77.52% in the freestyle.

" It's always nerve-wracking," said Kittel after winning his 11th title. "Many people think that 'you have so many Swedish Championship gold medals and so much experience', but you are still just as nervous and want the horse to do well and you yourself to ride well."

The silver went to Tinne Vilhelmson Silfven on Antonia Ax:son Johnson's 15-year old Holsteiner Devanto (by De Chirico x Lorentin). She posted 70.935% in the Grand Prix and 73.07% in the Kur for a second place overall. The bronze was for Emma Jonsson aboard the 13-year old KWPN bred Gerion (by Jazz x Don Prilero). She was second in the Grand prix wit 71.348% but dropped to 68.49% in the freestyle, yet finished third overall.
