At the 2023 KWPN stallion licensing in 's Hertogenbosch, the breeding stallions Bordeaux and Charmeur were proclaimed preferent.

The preferent title is awarded to stallions who improve their offspring in movement and conformation. The offspring needs to be at least 11 years of age or older and have a sport index higher than 140 (with a reliability of 85%). For the preferent predicate it is important that a stallion especially improves the male offspring.

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is a 17-year old Dutch warmblood stallion by United x Gribaldi. He is bred by Lisman and was co-owned by Joop van Uytert and Paul Schockemöhle initially, but Joop obtained full ownership a few years ago.

Bordeaux had a sport career as a young horse under Eva Möller. In 2017 the stallion was member of the Norwegian team at the European Championships in Gothenburg under Isabel Freese. In 2019 Japanese Akane Kuroki leased Bordeaux for one year as a successor to the retired Toots. In 2020 he returned to Van Uytert in The Netherlands.

Bordeaux has 534 offspring registered with KWPN and has sired 8 KWPN licensed sons (Ferdeaux, Livius, Grenoble, Googel, Le Formidable, Kenzo US, Merlot, Kilimanjaro) and Johnny Depp is KWPN approved in The Netherlands. Bordeaux has 5 licensed grandsons. In Germany more offspring is licensed for the German breed societies.

Bordeaux was present in Den Bosch to receive his accolade as a preferent sire. He got a standing ovation.

Charmeur

Charmeur is a 16-year old KWPN stallion by Florencio out of Trendy (by Jazz). He is bred by the late Huub van Helvoirt and was first owned by Nico Witte and Eugene Reesink.

As a young horse he was competed successful by Emmelie Scholtens before Madeleine Witte-Vrees took over the ride and competed him at international Grand Prix level. An injury ended his sport career and in 2020 the stallion sold to  Marie-Jose Proulx of Canadream Farms in Canada.

With more than 1300 offspring registered for KWPN in The Netherlands, he was a very popular breeding stallion as a youngster. He sired 4 licensed sons (Gyon, High Five US, Invershin, Jupiler S), 2 licensed grand sons.
