Sarah Runge's internationally competed Grand Prix horse Dark Dynamic has passed away. He was 17 years old.

Dark Dynamic was a Hanoverian gelding by Don Vino x Hohenstein x Freiherr and was bred by Georg Kok

The beautiful black was discovered and bought as a 2-year old by the Meppen based Christoph Dust. He trained Dark Dynamic from young horse classes up to Developing PSG horse level.

At the 2012 CDI Lingen, he competed the horse in the Nurnberger Burgpokal qualifier. Although the did not achieve remarkable scores there, the quality of the horse caught the eye of German Olympian Nadine Capellmann, who bought him as a second iron in the fire alongside Girasol.

Capellmann and Dark Dynamic made their show debut at the regional event in Gelsenkirchen in September 2012 at small tour level. In January 2013 they moved to Grand Prix level and in September 2013 they made their international show debut at the CDI Paris. She competed him at CDI's in Hagen, Munich, Cappeln, Oldenburg, Hamburg, Maastricht and Lier, though in 2016 she mainly focused on national shows. Their last CDI and show together was in September 2016 at the CDI Donaueschingen, where they were 14th in the Grand Prix with 66.280%.

In September 2016, Dark Dynamic sold to German Under 25 rider Sarah Runge.

The new pair made its international show debut at the 2017 CDI Nieuw en St. Joosland, their only CDI that year. They mainly focused on competing in the national Under 25 classes in Germany.

In 2018 Runge followed coach Johann Hinnemann to California and competed at the CDI's in Temecula and Del Mar. The 2018 CDI Del Mar was her last CDI on Dark Dynamic. She showed him one more time in July 2019 at a local show at Wintermühle in Neu-Anspach.

Young Riders' Horse for Henri Schamburg

In the spring of 2020, Runge leased Dark Dynamic to the 18-year old Henri Schamburg as his Young Riders' horse.

The pair made its first public appearance at a Young Riders team training session held in Warendorf on 17 June 2020. Schamburg was only able to compete the gelding once, at the 2020 Hessian Championships in Darmstadt in July, where they finished fifth in the S-test with 66.842% and seventh the next day with 66.974%

Unfortunately, Dark Dynamic turned up unsound and his injury ended up being life-ending.

"He showed lameness and had severe issues with the coffin bone," Runge told Eurodressage. "He could not be saved and sadly we had to put him down. Henri was doing great with him and we are all definitely still in shock."

Five weeks ago, Dark Dynamic was put to sleep.

"He was at Henri's, we brought him home after the diagnosis but he wouldn’t have been able to live a life without pain," Sarah explained. "He was more than just a horse to me, he was a family member. He had a loving, warm-hearted temperament."

Runge Swaps Dionysos de Massa for Dali de Hus Z

Runge has no longer competed since her last start on Dark Dynamic in 2019, but has not given up on riding.

In the autumn of 2019 she acquired the then 6-year old Portuguese sport horse bred Dionysos de Massa (by Special Agent Amour x Xaquiro) at Helgstrand Dressage in Denmark. The bay gelding had won bronze at  2017 French Young Horse Championships under Arnaud Serre and was part of a batch of horses which breeder Sylvain Massa had sent to Denmark to be sold.

Runge did not connect with Dionysos and returned the horse to Helgstrand, where she sourced the French bred and Zangersheide registered Dali de Hus Z. This 8-year old chestnut is bred by Xavier Marie of Haras de Hus and is by Don Juan de Hus out of the clone of World Champion mare Poetin.

"Dali de Hus Z is really talented," said Sarah. "I am excited for the future with him and he has such a nice character."

This week Dionysos de Massa sold to Benjamin and Jessica Werndl. The German duo also purchased Finest Black Lady, a 5-year old Hanoverian  mare by Finest - Royal Highness, which Swedish Jeanna Hogberg had qualified to compete at the 2020 World Young Horse Championships.
