German professional Grand Prix rider Katrin Burger got injured in a riding accident at the 2019 CDI Mannheim on 5 May 2019.

Burger competed at the 2019 CDI Mannheim aboard Harald Hohmann's 12-year old Hanoverian mare Sempre Si (by Sir Donnerhall x Don Davidoff). They were 24th in the Grand Prix with 67.391% and 6th in the Freestyle with 69.725%.

Upon entering the arena for the Freestyle prize giving, the horse reared and flipped over, crashing onto Burger. The rider was immediately brought to the local hospital. She was diagnosed with a severe concussion but fortunately sustained no worse injuries.

The 51-year old Burger is based in Gondelsheim, Germany. She is the former breeding director of the Oldenburg society and now runs her own dressage training business in South Germany.

"So far I'm doing well," Burger commented. "After a severe concussion my head is still buzzing a bit, but the feeling gets better after a good day's sleep. All the rest is fortunately OK, also Sissi (Sempre Si) is doing well. I'll take it a bit easier the next few days even though that will be hard."
