2018 Spanish Young Horse Championships

The 4-year old Donana TR, the 5-year old Imagine, the 6-year old Fulvius, the 7-year old Lario and the 8-year old Copernico became the winners of the 2018 Spanish Young Horse and Developing Prix St Georges Horse championships held in Segovia, Spain, on 25 - 28 October 2018.

Five Championships in five different age categories and levels attracted a huge list of competitors coming to Segovia to clinch the title.

The 4-year old division was contested over two rounds and Juan Manuel Acosta Ponce and the Oldenburg bred Donana TR (by Danciano) won the division after scoring 188.500 in the first round and 164.400 in the second round. He placed first with more than 10 points ahead of silver medalist David de Cstra Gomez-Serranillos on the Oldenburg bred Quidam Royal (by Quateron). This pair posted 117 and 155.2 points on the board. Javier Sanz Barroso and the Westfalian Rivano CL (by Riccio) finished with bronze on 119.7 and 161.6 points.

In the 5-year old division the Dutch based Spanish Laura Reija Belart steered the KWPN bred Imagine (by Chippendale) to victory with 360.70 total points. The pair collected 79.600 (2nd) in the first round, 84.20 (1st) in the second round and 77.40 (4th) in the Finals. Alfonso Gormaz Torcal and the Dutch warmblood stallion I (by El Capone) were the runners-up with 355.3 points. They won round 1 (80.00), were fourth in the second round (79.40) and won the final round (80.40). Juan Manual Galeano Cerezo and the PRE bred Solano Centurion (by Kabileno VIII) snatched the bronze with 354.60 points.

Twenty-two combinations competed in the 6-year old division and Javier Higuera Carmona topped the board on Antonio Carrillo Baeza's Hanoverian bred Fulvius (by Furst Nymphenburg). The pair won round 1 with 79.400, was third in round 2 with 79.200 and dropped to seventh place in the final round with 75.00 but his overall total of 348.20 landed them the gold medal. Marçal Sabe Canellas and the Hanoverian gelding Bolek (by) were good for silver with 78.800 (2nd), 79.20 (2nd), and 74.00 (11th). Spanish WEG team rider Claudio Castilla Ruiz and the Lusitano bred Hi-Rico de Sobral (by Oriente) got the bronze with 76.200, 79.40 and 74.60.

Fifteen pairs competed in the 7-year old division and Claudio Castilla Ruiz earned the title on the Hanoverian stallion Lario (by Locksley II x Rotspon), owned by Maria Jose Alvarez Mezquiriz and formerly competed by Maria Albinana Sanz. The pair dominated all three rounds, acing the tests with 77.547%, 78.718% and 77.515%. Sergio Marti Perez and the Hanoverian Dilara (by Danone I) were good for silver with 72.122%, 76.386%, and 73.272%. Antonio Hose Diaz Porras captured the third overall place and bronze medal aboard the Hanoverian Bradley Cooper (by Bonifatius). The pair was consistent and finished second in round 1 (72.765%), third in round 2 (75.168%) and second in round 3 (73.40%).

In the developing Prix St Georges horse division for 8 and 9-year olds 27 combinations lined up. Spanish WEG team rider Juan Matute Guimon steered his father's Oldenburg bred Copernico (by San Amour) to victory. Round one consisted of the young riders preliminary test and Matute won that class with 70.750%. In round 2, the Prix St Georges, he scored the winning 70.706% and in the Young Riders Kur to Music he finished on top with 72.370%. Jose Antonio Garcia Mena captured both silver and bronze in this division. Aboard Jose Ignacio Bravo's Divina Royal he earned silver with 68.938% (3rd), 66.647% (6th), and 71.565% (2nd). Aboard Antonio Carrillo Baeza's Hanoverian bred Quaterback (by Quaterback), Garcia Mena landed bronze with 68.031% (4th), 67.794% (4th), and 70.905% (4th).
