The Trakehner licensed breeding stallion Occacio passed away on Thursday 19 March 2015 following a severe virus infection. To this date the exact cause of death is still not known and a necropsy is being carried out.
"To this moment were are not sure what it was," Occacio's rider Danny Bartel told Eurodressage. "The horse is in pathology and all the tests are negative until now."
Occacio was born in 2003 and bred by Manfred Fischer. The dark bay stallion was by Cadeau out of Olympiade II (by Angard x Grandezzo x Gunnar).
He was licensed at the 2005 Trakehner Stallion Licensing in Neumunster and sold for 22,000 euro at auction to Jan Murmann from Hamburg. He owned the stallion up to its untimely death. From 2006 till 2009 the stallion stood up for stud at Stall Krotenbach but then was forced to take a break from breeding.
Occacio did his 30-day Stallion Performance Test in Schlieckau in 2006 and scored 7.89 for dressage and 7.47 for show jumping to finish on an overall score of 7.62.
Under Danny Bartel, Occacio qualified for the Bundeschampionate as a youngster but did not compete at the Finals in Warendorf. Because of health issues and other reasons, Occacio never completed the mandatory performance tests or shows to become fully licensed. However in 2009 the Trakehner society granted the stallion one more breeding year thanks to a vet statement confirming the horse's inability to comply with the rules on time, but as of 2010 he was no longer allowed to stand at stud.
The only way for Occacio to re-obtain that licensed status was to to complete at S-level and achieve five placings in the top three. Bartel achieved this task in 2012 with one first place, three second places and one third place. In 2013 the pair dropped down to M-level and Bartel and Occacio did their last show together at M-level in June 2014 at a local event in Karben, Germany.
Occacio sired one approved son, Herbstbach, and has three State Premium daughters.
