The 3-year old dark bay Dutch warmblood mare Flieka was named winner of the 2013 KWPN Mare Championship at the KWPN Horse Days in Ermelo, The Netherlands, on Friday 16 August 2013.
Flieka was maybe not the prettiest mare conformation-wise but according to the jury she was the best mover of the lot. Flieka is by Voice out of Zeoliene (by Jazz) and is bred by A. Beeren from Weert, The Netherlans. She is owned by the trio Van Miltenburg, Jacobs and Egbert Schep.
"A very long legged dressage mare with a strong body," said judge Marian Dorresteijn. "She shows much athletic ability and can collect and extend in the legs easily."
Faximiliana M (by Ampere x Ferro) was named the reserve champion. Bred by Musterd and owned by Nico Witte, this mare excelled in conformation. "A mare who stands well in the rectangular model, who has a beautiful body and a good shoulder and withers," said Dorresteijn. "She trots from the hind leg with much cadence."
Jazz was again predominant as a sire of the 10 mares that were picked for the champion's ring. The third placed filly, Ficara, is by Jazz out of a Ferro dam and is bred and owned by Matthijs Maat. "A very strong mare with a powerful walk. She showed much suppleness and good body usage," Dorresteijn commented.
