Williams, Knapton, Woodhead Win 2011 British Youth Riders Championships

2011 British Youth Riders Championships

Erin Williams, Jessica Knapton and Amy Woodhead became the grand champions at the 2011 British Youth Riders Championships held at Sheepgate Equestrian Centre in Leverton, Great Britain, on Monday and Tuesday 22 - 23 August 2011. These Under 25 National Championships featured two championship rounds of which the points were totaled to determine the podium places.

In the pony division Erin Williams reigned supreme aboard her two German riding ponies Dynasty and Danny Boy B and covered both the number one and two place in the overall ranking. Aboard her 8-year old palomino Dynasty (by Deinhard B) Williams won the team championship test with 71.30% and placed second in the individual test (70.88%). Her total of 142.18% was good for gold. Aboard her chestnut gelding Danny Boy B (by Flying Dream) she was second in the team test (70.28%) but won the individual (71.14). This total of 141.42 placed her second overall. Newcomer Bethany Rose Horobin and the 2010 British team pony Gigolo (by Going East) finished with bronze after a 67.96% and 70.26% earning ride.

The 16-year old Jessica Knapton and her elegant, long-legged Remarkable (by Royal Diamond) were the most consistent in the Junior Riders division and topped the leader board to get gold. She scored 68.74% in the team test and won the individual with 68.77%. She beat Joanna Thurman-Baker on the 9-year old Hanoverian Highcliffe Apollo (by Dev Lenz) who aced the team test with 69.91% but dropped to 65.96% in the individual. Her 135.87% total put her in silver medal position. Emma Corbett and the refined Westfalian chestnut Furst Diamantino (by Furst Heinrich x Diamantino) slotted in bronze medal position after scoring 67.75% and 66.23%.

18-year old college student Amy Woodhead and her 14-year old Dutch warmblood stallion Pardon (by Jonggor's Weyden x Amor) captured the national young riders' title with two solid rounds. She scored 67.81% in the team test and 68.95%  in the individual to bring her total to 136.76%. The British Hanoverian Highcliffe Apollo, who won silver in the junior riders' division, was on double duty performing four times in two days (!). He also won silver in the young riders division with Joanna's elder young rider sister Samantha. Her total was 135.09% and Samantha referred Gemma Maddocks on the Hanoverian gelding Wustensand to the bronze seat (127.99%).
