Otto Schulte-Frohlinde's legendary breeding and dressage facility Gestut Gronwohldhof is closing its doors and is up for sale. The home of Donnerhall and Karin Rehbein will be sold, which means an important chapter in German dressage and breeding history will come to an end.

German equestrian magazine Reiter Revue confirmed the news of the sale of the facility. Karin Rehbein will be moving to a new location: Arndt Hoenke's Stall Büchsenschinken in Reinbeck near Hamburg, Germany. Rehbein is currently training and competing Madeleine Winter-Schulze's Grand Prix horse World Idol.

Otto's son, 65-year old Henrik Schulte-Frohlinde, explained that the property has been for sale for a long time already but now he will close the barn's door as a previous announced sale did not take place due to failing payment. Henrik took over the stud in 1990 after the death of his father, who had discovered the foundation stallion Donnerhall as a foal.

Gronwohldhof was the home of Herbert and Karin Rehbein. Herbert passed away in 1997, Karin (and Donnerhall) went on to win team gold and an individual fourth place at the 1998 World Equestrian Games in Rome.

In the 2000s Rehbein and Falk Rosenbauer were head trainers at the facility. Gestut Sprehe had several of their dressage stallions in training there. In October 2010 Rosenbauer left the facility as well to go independent. For more than 20 years Australian Olympian Kristy Oatley was also based at Gronwohldhof.
