Two new stallions have been approved to breed for the Trakehner Verband. Meraldik and Eufrates. At a special approval meeting in Augsburg, Bavaria, January 8, 2006, the Verband inspected three stallions and accepted two.

The Lithuanian bred Eufratas (by Chapun x Cheopsas), and Meraldik (by Münchhausen x Caramel xx) were licensed, the eventer Osharin's Peron (by Peron x Handryk) was not.

Meraldik is the third approved Münchhausen son for the Trakehner breed (of which two are out of thoroughbred mares). Meraldik's dam Herka xx is the full sister to the late top producer Heraldik xx and she foaled the licensed Oldenburg stallion Royaldik. Meraldik's approval is pending as he needs to pass his 30-day performance test first. The stallion will be stationed at his breeder, Gestüt Birkhof in Donzdorf, Germany.

The 14-year old Eufratas was bred at Gestüt Nemunas in Lithuania and imported to Germany as a dressage horse. Under young rider Eva Maria Hinze, the chestnut stallion competed at international Prix St Georges and Grand Prix shows. Though Eufratas got accepted, he will continue his performance career and it is unclear when he will be available at stud.
