After the passing of founder Toni Meggle at the start of November 2025, Dressage Stable Meggle in Wasserburg (GER) has undergone some major staff changes. Two new riders have been hired, a new travelling trainer welcomed, and head rider Juan Rodriguez Carvajal is leaving.

Head rider Juan Rodriguez Carvajal is leaving Stall Meggle after five years on the job.

The 28-year old Spaniard is originally frol Zafra and decided to pursue a professional career in riding by leaving Spain and going for experience in the heart of horse sport in Europe. He first rode 2.5 years for Belgian Grand Prix rider Jeroen Devroe and Carmen de Bondt, before working at Van Olst Horses in The Netherlands.

In 2020 he moved to Meggle and rode under Matthias Bouten. Rodriguez got his big break when Bouten left in the summer of 2022 and he was allowed to step into the principal rider's shoes. He made his international show debut in December 2022 in Kronenberg on Grand Prix schoolmaster Meggle's Boston (by Johnson x Partout) .

As of 2023 Juan got to compete at major CDI's in Ornago, Hagen, Munich, Fot, Motesice, Salzburg, Compiegne, Wiener Neustadt, and Aachen. Alongside Boston he also competed internationally Enzo's Erbe (by Enzo Ferrari x Jazz), Verdi (by Vivaldi x Rubinstein), and Ray Dance (as of 2024 owned by Meggle although team rider Hannah Beaulieu is listed as owner in the FEI passport).

Rodriguez is now leaving Meggle for a new chapter. "I will take a little break and enjoy Christmas and new year at home with my family and I will decide what I do next," he told Eurodressage. "I will like to stay around this area (Bavaria/Austria) and there are some interesting things (happening)."

New Faces

Three new faces have joined the team at Stall Meggle, where Dodo Eichinger (ex-Laugks) assists in the daily management of the barn.

As previously announced on Eurodressage, Hannah Laser will move to Meggle in January 2026 and she will join newly moved-in rider Kathrin Sudhölter. The latter left Werner Gehring's Gestut Westfalenhof in Steinhagen, where she used to co-manage the stable with her husband Sven. She first began riding for Paul Schockemöhle, before accepting a job in Wasserburg.

Sudhölter has already settled in at Meggle and made her national show debut this weekend in Salzburg at small tour level with Meggle's Long Island (by Lord Loxley x Breitling W) and Fidelio Royal (by For Romance x Rubin Royal). Sudholter's most well known competition horses in recent years were Grand Prix mare Die Baroness and stallion Viva Gold.

German born Swiss Grand Prix team trainer Oliver Oelrich has left his previous permanent base in Lengerich, into the capable hands of young professionals Florine Kienbaum and Dries van Dijck, and is currently living a life on the road, commuting between Switzerland and Germany as a trainer, with weekly stop-overs at Meggle's.
