Silva Martin's developing Grand Prix horse Rosa Cha has contracted Potomac Horse Fever and foundering as a result of the infection. Rosa was vaccinated against the disease.

Rosa Cha W is an Australian bred Oldenburg mare by Regardez Moi out of Jasmine W (by Richmeed Medallion). She is bred by Australian Grand Prix rider Heath Ryan. She is owned by the Rosa Cha W syndicate, which includes 10 participants.

Martin and Rosa Cha W had planned to make their Grand Prix debut at the 2017 CDI Devon this weekend after a two-year break from international competition.

"It is especially disappointing as it happened in the week before she was due to compete in the Grand Prix at Devon," Martin stated in a news release. "It has taken years of hard work and training to get to this point in Rosa’s career and we have been working on our musical freestyle and training regularly with Jessica Ransehousen to ensure that we would have a good performance this weekend. Now Rosa is on stall rest and undergoing antibiotic treatment, and we are hoping for the best."

"Seeing her in so much pain was just awful," said Silva. "I broke Rosa and have trained her up from a baby. She was on the team for the Nations Cup and has done so much for me over the years. Now I just want her to be as comfortable as possible and will take the best possible care of her."

In 2014 Silva Martin and Rosa Cha W competed on the U.S. team that won the Nations Cup in Wellington. Since then the mare's career was stalled for a year due to Martin's riding accident in the spring of 2014. They returned to the show ring in 2015. Rosa Cha W has not competed internationally since March 2015.
