Dutch Grand Prix rider and former team rider Sander Marijnissen has fractured his hip in a riding accident on Wednesday 6 September 2017. Marijnissen was thrown from the saddle by a frisky youngster.
Marijnissen and his partner Deborah Dollee were handling a young horse. Dollee had him on the lunge line when the youngster exploded and launched Marijnissen from the saddle.
"Sander tried to be brave because he still had a lesson scheduled and didn't want to cancel that, but I saw that this was seriously wrong and called the ambulance," Dollee told Horses.nl. "He was operated on yesterday at noon and has to stay in the hospital until Friday or Saturday."
Sander is not allowed to put any weigth one leg for six weeks after which rehabilitation and physiotherapy start.
Marijnissen had planned on making his Grand Prix debut with a new upcoming talent, Cool 2 Johnson (by Johnson). Aboard Moedwil, Marijnissen was member of the Dutch team that competed at the 2011 European Championships in Rotterdam.
