U.S. Grand Prix rider Quinn Iverson has debuted a new future star, the 6-year old Ferdinand de Fontaine.

Ferdinand de Fontaine is a 2020 born Oldenburg by Franklin out of Isabell Werth's Olympic medal winning Wendy (by Sezuan x Soprano). He is bred by Danish Bolette Wandt of Chateau de Fontaine.

From France to Denmark

Ferdinand de Fontaine is one of three licensed sons and one of seven known male offspring that Wendy has produced for her owner who lives in France.  All via sex determined embryotransfer.  At the time Bolette ran her breeding programme in close consultation with Andreas Helgstrand, who was also a co-owner of the horse.

The black was licensed at the 2022 Mecklenburg Stallion Licensing, where he was named a premium stallion. He was first shown in Denmark in September 2024 by Merita Hagren in the qualifier for the national championship, but he did not go to the actual championships.

In the spring of 2025 Helgstrand sold Ferdinand to the Australian Weel family who is behind the company River Oak Equine Sports. Hagren qualified Ferdinand for the German team for the 2025 World Young Horse Championships in Verden, where they were 11th in the 5-year old finals.

Sold to the U.S.A.

In December 2025 Helgstrand sold River Oak's Ferdinand to American horse owner Bille Davidson, who sponsors dressage rider Quinn Iverson.

Quinn, who nick-names Ferdinand "Phoenix", debuted him in a national third level test at last weekend's CDN Myakka City at Terranova equestrian center. They scored a winning 70.541%.

Quinn trains with Adrienne Lyle. She also rides 2025 U.S. Developing Grand Prix horse champion Gremlin (by Grey Flannel x Donnerschwee) for the same owner.  Gremlin sold to Helgstrand for 500,000 euro at the 2020 PSI Auction and got resold to Davidson.

"They are my two magical creatures," Quinn told Eurodressage. She also wrote that "This young man’s (Ferdinand's) character is simply amazing. A heart of gold with all the try in the world! Super excited to continue to developing him and grateful to Bille for this opportunity."
