Romy Allard and her black Oldenburg mare Summer Rose OLD were one of Germany's most prolific junior rider pairs between 2017 and 2019 but after a brief transition to Young Riders level in 2021-2022 both Allard and Summer Rose completely disappeared from the scene. Where are they now?

Summer Rose

Summer Rose OLD is a 2009 born Oldenburg mare by Sir Diamond out of Granada (by Rubinstein x Feingau). She is bred at Stall Troff.

She was discovered as a youngster by Claudia Haller, who also had sire Sir Diamond in her barn. Claudia first competed "Sissi" as a 5-year old in 2014. She sold the mare a year later to the Allard family for their pony riding daughter Romy, who was preparing for the transition to junior level. Romy had been competing ponies Ko and Dujardin B at the time.

Allard debuted Summer Rose at local shows in the spring of 2015 and in 2016 made her international show debut at Children's level at the CDI Hagen Future Championships.

German Junior Medal Winner

As of 2017 she tackled the junior classes and relied on coaching from Anna Christina Abbelen. Their rode the Preis der Besten and won the 2017 German Junior Riders Championships before making the CDI debut at junior level at the 2017 CDI Aachen Young Stars.

At the 2018 Junior Europeans
In 2018 they were third in the Preis der Besten and twice placed in the top three at the CDI Hagen to clinch a spot on the German team for the European Junior Riders Championships in Fontainebleau, where they landed team silver and double individual bronze. They skipped the German Youth Championships but finished the year by winning two classes at the CDI Aachen Young Stars.

In 2019 the pair did not make it into the top 10 at the Preis der Besten an despite scoring well at the CDI Hagen, they were not nominated on the team for the Europeans. They placed fourth at the 2019 German Junior Riders Championships in Zeiskam.

A two-year break from international showing followed. Nationally Allard and Summer Rose continued to show at M** and S* level and in 2021 they returned at Young Riders level, finished 13th at the 2021 Preis der Besten. Their first international start at YR level was at the Aachen Young Starts at the end of the year. Five months later she rode her last international at the 2022 CDI Troisdorf to place second, third and fourth.

National Sport

At the 2019 CDI Hagen Future Champions
Romy and Summer Rose briefly continued at national level.

After a 15th place at the 2022 Preis der Besten and an 8th place at the 2022 German Young Riders Championships, Romy rode her last season on the then 14-year old Summer Rose in the spring of 2023. She was 16th at the 2023 Preis der Besten.

The pair did their final show at the 2023 Rhinelander regional championships in Langenfeld, where they were second. Both Romy and Summer Rose did not return to competition.

Where are they Now?

Romy explained to Eurodressage that Summer Rose has been retired from sport and now has a happy, horsey life in the field.

"Summer Rose is doing amazing," she said. "For the past two years, she’s been living in a herd of around 20 horses and is truly living her best life. A little over two years ago, I decided to stop riding her and let her retire. She has done so much for me over the years, and now I just want her to be happy and enjoy her life."

Summer Rose happy in the field
Romy admitted that high performance youth sport was an exciting period in her life that also brought stress and after Summer Rose she didn't feel like continuing.

"To be honest, I’ve been riding horses since I was seven years old, and at some point I just felt like it was time for me to move on. Competing was also quite stressful for both me and my horse," she said. "Right now, I’m working a lot in real estate and trying to build a business together with my partner (Till Mackensen)."

The 24-year Allard graduated as a Bachelor of real estate at the EBZ Business School in 2024 and did an internship at Nielsen Immobilien before beginning her own company, Mackensen & Allard Immo, in Ratingen, Germany, in September 2026 . The love for horses in still in her and she is happy that she can give Summer Rose a good life.

"I honestly think the life she’s living now is much better for her," she said. "She seems really happy, and that’s what matters most to me."
