A tragic trailer accident has left three horses dead on Tuesday 6 October 2026. They were en route to the 2026 Canada West National Dressage Championships at Thunderbird Show Park in Langley, Canada.

Equestrian Canada issued a press release stating that the accident involved "members of our community traveling from Manitoba and Alberta to the EC National Dressage and Para Dressage Championships (West) in Langley, BC. We mourn the loss of three horses with the fourth having been immediately transported for veterinary treatment."

At 8:45 a.m. local time on Oct. 6, officers with the B.C. Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle crash roughly 40 kilometres east of Revelstoke on Highway 1.

The driver was towing a trailer with four horses when she lost control and collided with a rock wall, according to Sgt. Michael McLaughlin. The 73-year old driver was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Unfortunately three horses had to be euthanized, a fourth one is in critical condition in the equine hospital. Two of the horses that tragically passed are Mackenzie Abbott's Fearless (2010, KWPN by Painted Black x Uptown) and Kate Wall's Rosaria (2008, HANN by Rosario x Laptop). They were both owned by  Lisa Paterson of Solace Stables.

"Our equestrian community functions as a close-knit family, and a sudden loss of this magnitude is felt deeply by every rider, coach, groom, and owner across the country," Equestrian Canada added. "EC extends its heartfelt sympathies to the riders, owners, families, and the entire support team surrounding these beloved horses."
