Lisa Volpp (ex-Horler, née Maier) said goodbye to her career starting Young Riders horse Long Island Ice Tea. The 21-year old gelding passed away.
Long Island Ice Tea was a 2005 born Westfalian by Laurentianer out of Monique (by Montmartre x Florestan). He was bred by Christoph Thiemann.
Sport Career
The horse was first competed as a four-year old in 2009 by Carina Barndt. She showed him intensively at numeroud local shows in the Westfalian are from A to L-level through the summer of 2010
The gelding became the sports partner of Lisa Volpp, then known as Lisa Maier, in 2011. She first showed the 6-year old at M-level and did their first S-level test in September 2012.
In 2013 they made their debut at Young Riders level and went to their first international in Babenhausen in September. They were 12th at the 2013 German Young Riders Championships in Munich. They stayed at Young Riders' level in 2014 with CDI starts in Stadl Paura, Hagen and Babenhausen. They were 8th at the Preis der Besten and at the German Young Riders Championships in Zeiskam.
In 2016 Lisa's then-partner Sebastian Horler took over the ride through 2017. In 2018 the pair did its last shows at Inter II/short Grand Prix level. Their last show was in Reutlingen in September 2018
Retirement
Long Island Ice Tea, also known as "Larry", was retired from competition sport.
Lisa announced his passing on her social media.
"I owe so incredibly much to you, you were my best friend," Lisa stated. "I will miss you forever."
