The Spanish combination Antonio José Crespín López and the PRE bred Santiago HGF will not be competing at the 2026 World Championships for young dressage horses in Verden.
The American bred bay stallion (by Grandioso III x Joyero XXIV) is not fit enough to compete.
"In recent days, Santiago HGF suffered an incident that required veterinary attention," Hampton Green Farm stated. "Although he was progressing well, as a precautionary measure he was referred to a veterinary hospital in Belgium to verify that everything was evolving as expected and to undergo a comprehensive examination. Following the necessary diagnostic tests and the assessment of the veterinary team, the decision was made to withdraw him from competition. From the very beginning, the horse's health and welfare have been our absolute priority."
HGF owner Kimberly van Kampen personally added, "ro course we’re disappointed but we are also experienced horse people and things go this way sometimes. In this case we had a choice to make and we chose the safest option for the horse. We don’t want to show a horse that is not 100%."
Rider Antonio Crespin was recently hired as part of a new strategy to bring Hampton Green Farm back in the high performance sport game. Following the relocation of Olympian Jose Daniel Martin Dockx to Hampton Green Farm in Ocala, Florida, Crespin was hired as an assistant. He competed Santiago HGF at the CDI's in Ocala, Myakka City and Segovia. Martin Dockx is also the Spanish PRE team trainer and selector.
The first reserve to fill Santiago's spot is Juan de Dios Ramírez García on the PRE bred Garboso CA (by Maestro Rey x FER Buleria x Martinete).
