Danish Under 25 dressage rider Lea Torabi suddenly lost her number one competition horse, Jivago de Massa, on 28 May 2026.

Jivago de Massa was a 12-year old Portuguese crossbred by Don Juan de Hus out of Urra (by Moscatel AML x Xaqiero). He was bred by Sylvain Massa

From France to Denmark

The chestnut was first competed in France as a 6-year old in 2020. Under NIcolas Giraud he did the young horse classes, first as a 6-year old and in 2021 as a 7-year old under Renaud Ramadier.

Massa also used Jivago as a breeding stallion for his own cross-breed mares and French young horse championship finalist One Moretime de Massa (by Jivago de Massa x Fuzilador) is one example.

In 2022 breeder Massa then sent the horse to Helgstrand Dressage in Denmark to be sold.

Lea Torabi

The horse sold to Danish Lea Andreassen Torabi.

The pair pmade its international debut at young riders level in April 2023 in Le Mans, followed by the CDI Aalborg.

In 2024 they used the time to prepare for Under 25 Grand Prix level and competed nationally at that level. Their international U25 premier was at the CDI Aalborg in May 2025. From there they went to CDI's in Hagen, Herning, and Vilhelmsborg. They were 7th at the 2025 Danish Under 25 Championships.

This year Torabi an "Messi" competed in Gothenburg, Tolbert and Aalborg, finishing in the top 5 five times out of six tests. The pair trains with Pernille Orum.

Sudden Passing

Their together was tragically cut short yesterday when Lea was forced to put him to sleep.

Jivago developed a mild colic on Sunday 24 May and was brought to the equine clinic as a precaution. He returned home on Tuesday feeling much better, but suddenly on Wednesday his condition took a turn for the worse.

"rhe vets said it was an infection in his guts and they stopped “working," Torabi told Eurodressage. "He didn’t react to any medication and we had to let him go."

On social media a devastated Torabi added, "it all happened so fast and he was in so much pain in the end, we had to let him go. Our hearts are shattered into a million pieces. We’re all completely devastated and in shock.(..) I don’t know how I’ll keep living on without you… One thing is sure, a part of me died with you last night."
