The DSP stallion licensing committee took a strange decision this year by naming two 2.5-year old colts champion of the 2026 DSP Stallion Licensing held in Munich on 21 - 23 January 2026.
A collection of 56 dressage bred colts was presented; 28 were licensed and 9 were named premium. Instead of picking a clear winner, the committee appeared non-committal and just named two.
Sires Feliciano, Floricello, Va Bene and the Dutch owned Zackerey each saw two offspring licensed. Only Zackerey and Feliciano had one son named premium.
Two Champions, One Real Catch
The two champion stallion were the chestnut Westfalian registered Sir Heinrich x Don Juan de Hus, bred by Erich Trogemann and owned by Schulze-Averdiek Sportpferde, and the black DSP registered Feliciano x San Amour, bred by Martin Niedermair and owned by Czech Grand Prix rider Ida Vávriková.
The bidders at the auction following the licensing on Saturday 24 January 2026 left no doubt about it which stallion was the real catch of the show: the Sir Heirnich. He sold for 265,000 euro to Monic Schmidheiny of Gestut von Bellin.
The Feliciano x San Amour sold to The Netherlands for 56,000 euro.
Premium Stallions
Spanish horse dealer Santiago Damil acquired two premium stallions at auction. The Westfalian registered Dutch Deam x Benicio x Don Romantic, bred and owned by Franz-Georg Ottmann. He paid 100,000 euro for that colt. Damil also bought the DSP registered Total Hope x Feenkönig xx), bred by Gabriele Eder and owned by Lukas Paulix. He paid 50,000 euro for that one.
German professional dressage rider Marcus Hermes welcomes two young stallions in his barn: The premium Energy x Sezuan colt which sold for 125,000 euro, and the premium Fusionist x Brentano II, bred by Verwold and owned by Frederik Vekens. He sold for 84,000 euro. Both sold to mystery buyers (at this moment).
The second most expensive stallion of the auction was the premium Zackerey x Furst Heinrich, bred and owned by horse dealer Heinrich Ramsbrock. He sold for 150,000 to Gestüt Sprehe.
The premium colt by Global Player x Floriscount, bred and owned by Christian Wittlinger, fetched the third highest price of 130,000 euro.
Non-Licensed Colts Sell Well
The most expensive, non-licensed stallion was the Secret x Revolution which sold to France for 71,000 euro. Also moving to France is the Secret x Finest for 52,000 euro.
The non-licensed Fair Deal x Lahnstein sold for 70,000 euro to The Netherlands, while the Toto Jr x Secret fetched 67,000 euro. The non-licensed Franklin x Zoom went for 44,000 euro. The Zalando x Furstenball had a hammer price of 40,000 euro.
