German squad rider Carina Scholz has obtained the ride on the 6-year old KWPN bred and German licensed stallion Fortunio. The stallion's owner, the Warendorf state stud, announced the news on Facebook.

Fortunio is a 2020 born Dutch warmblood by For Romance II out of Luce DC (by Zack x Don Schufro x Weinberg). He is bred by  L. Van Zandwijk in The Netherlands

Premium Stallion

First owned and reared by Andre Koop, the dark bay is originally named Phenix DC on his KWPN passport.

He was named a premium stallion at the 2022 Westfalian Stallion Licensing and was not offered for sale at auction. He did move to the NRW state stud and in the FN database the stud farm is listed as the owner.

He stood at stud for three consecutive seasons in Warendorf.  In 2024 he was bred to 27 Westfalian mare, while in 2023 he covered 42 mares for a Westfalian passport.

Fortunio did the shortened suitability test in April 2023 on home turf in Munster-Handorf and scored 8,01 points. He did the sport test in April 2024 and scored 7.78 points.

Sport Career

Fortunio has done very little in the competition ring. In 2024 he showed once with Jan Steiner in the saddle, while in 2025 Henrike Böhnke (ex Sommer-Böker) rode him in five tests, all at local shows in the arena.

The NRW stud has now passed on the reins to Carina Scholz.

"Fortunio has been at Sportpferde Scholz for around six weeks and is ridden by Carina Scholz, a national squad rider and one of the most successful German dressage riders at present," the NRW stud stated. "We look forward to working together, to the coming season and to the further development of this special youngster at Sportpferde Scholz."
