Lodovico, the 5-year old stallion which Lena Hassmann rode to victory at the 2025 Bundeschampionate, has been sold. The stallion has moved into training with Beatrice Hoffrogge.

Lodovico is a 2020 born Oldenburg stallion by Lord Europe out of Mispel (by Don Frederic x Sir Donnerhall). He is bred by the brothers Wieghaus-Vorwerk.

Premium Stallion

Owned by Ann Kathrin Linsenhoff of Gestut Schafhof, the black became a third ranked premium stallion at the 2022 Westfalian Stallion Licensing.

He was offered for sale in the auction following the licensing and had the second highest hammer price of 401,000 euro. At the time it was reported that he sold to Thailand after a bidding duel with Eugene Reesink.  Gestut Schafhof is home to the European based Thai team riders and Linsenhoff's step son Matthias Rath is team trainer for Thailand.

On paper, the ownership never changed and Schafhof remained credited as owner of the stallion.

In 2023 he was also approved for Oldenburg, Baden Wurrttemberg and Hanover. He did a 50-day performance tests in the autumn of 2023 and scored 7.54 for dressage.

Bundeschampion

The black was first competed by Schafhof stable jockey Judith Sarda Mena (ESP) at a local show in Ladenburg in June 2023, placing 8th. In 2024 he was entered for one show under Julia Torrallardona (ESP), also in Ladenburg, but there is no recorded score.

In 2025 Torrallardona continued showing him in the 5-yea rold classes and even went to the CDI Ornago in Italy, where they were fourth in the 5-year old tests.  In the summer Lena Hassmann took over the ride and premiered him at Hof Bettenrode. She qualified for the Bundeschampionate after going to Greven, Munster, and Ostbevern. In Warendorf she was fourth in the warm-up round and won the 5-year old dressage horse final with 8.80.

Sold

Bea welcomes Lodovico to her barn
Right before Christmas Lodovico sold to Countess Amely von Buchholtz and Count Wolf von Buchholtz and they have put the horse in training with Beatrice Hoffrogge, a former assistant rider of Isabell Werth.

Beatrice (then Buchwald) brought Weihegold to Grand Prix level before Isabell took over the ride and went on to win individual silver at the 2016 Olympics. Hoffrogge left Werth, but after several years the trainer and student have re-connected and are collaborating again.

"Around 10 years ago the countess came to Isabell Werth's stable and with their Daily Pleasure I achieved my first international Grand Prix successes," Bea explained. "Later they bought Dancelli, a now 10-year old Dante Weltino (x Baroncelli) son, who is now on his way to Grand Prix. With Lodovico Amely and Wolf have another future hopeful, whose training I look forward to."

Hoffrogge credits Isabell for matching Lodovico to Hoffrogge.
