The United States continues to establish itself as the second-largest home of Pure Spanish Horses (Pura Raza Española, PRE) after Spain, with a rapidly growing demand across the American market. Over the past few years, the United States P.R.E. Association (USPRE) has played a key role in developing and promoting the breed throughout North America.

Traditionally held each January in Wellington, this year USPRE brought its renowned USPRE Week to a new venue: Ibericon 2025, held October 13–19 at the World Equestrian Center (WEC) in Ocala, Florida. The decision marked a new chapter for the association, joining forces with Ibericon—an innovative event that celebrates Iberian horses at the highest international level.

USPRE’s presence at Ibericon featured an exciting and diverse program, combining education, sport, and the celebration of the PRE breed.

Double Training Clinic with Olympian Juan Manuel Munoz

Clinics with Juan Manuel Munoz
The week opened with two days of clinics led by Spanish Olympian Juan Manuel Muñoz, who worked with multiple horse-and-rider combinations, offering invaluable insights and guidance. Spectators enjoyed observing progressive training approaches—from young horses to Grand Prix-level athletes—highlighting the importance of correct and classical training.

The list of riders included Leslie Bean with Yuntero XIX, Meredith Bogacz with Sausalito, Denielle Gallagher with Jeroboan de Massa, Mollie Rose with Ousedurl Hacal, Sarah Martin with Nitro, Catalino González with Malteso Arenas, Martin Arnold with RDL Venerable TLC, Brandi MacRae with Inolvidable RDL, and Abel Peralta with Enamorado de Marengo and RM Brego.

Educational Seminars and Industry Insights

One of the highlights of the week was a series of seminars led by professionals from across the equestrian industry. Among them, Yeguada La Cartuja – Hierro del Bocado presented a special session on Saturday titled “La Cartuja: The Legacy & History of the Carthusian Horse,” delivered by the organization’s president, Judit Anda. The presentation explored the origins and historical significance of the PRE breed and its enduring connection to Spanish heritage.

Fiesta Ocala: A Showcase of Quality

The sporting program, Fiesta Ocala—a two-star conformation show—was a highlight of the week, bringing together 46 horses from 23 breeders representing the United States, Mexico, Guatemala, and other countries.

The round table panellists
To conclude the week, USPRE hosted an engaging Round Table Discussion moderated by Lily Forado, featuring an international panel of distinguished breeders:
Kim Van Kampen (Hampton Green Farm, USA), Ignacio Candau (Yeguada Candau, Spain), Christian Moll (Hacienda El Baluarte, Guatemala), Jesús Juárez (Rancho El Lodazal, USA), and Eduardo Rodríguez (Yeguada La Cartuja – Hierro del Bocado, Spain).

The discussion explored the PRE horse’s evolution from conformation to sport, the economic importance of morphological shows, and the balance between preserving traditional beauty and developing athletic performance. Panelists emphasized the importance of education, training, and collaboration between riders and breeders to meet the demands of modern equestrian sport.

Throughout the week, USPRE also hosted an information and service booth, where members received assistance with registry services, memberships, and general inquiries.

SICAB 2025 and Beyond

The PRE Horse celebrated at Ibericon
Following the success of Ibericon 2025, USPRE’s next stop will be SICAB 2025 in Seville, Spain, where the association will have its own stand to welcome members, connect with breeders and riders, and engage with PRE enthusiasts from around the world.

USPRE looks forward to continuing its mission of promoting the PRE horse internationally and strengthening ties within the global community.

This year’s USPRE Week at Ibericon drew a large and enthusiastic audience of breeders, riders, and admirers of the breed, reaffirming the Pure Spanish Horse’s role as both a Spanish cultural treasure.
