Darabel, Lara van Nek's young riders horse, will be the schoolmaster for Dutch junior rider Kyra Hingstman.
Darabel is a 17-year old KWPN mare by Westpoint out of White Spot (by Don Schufro x Flemmingh). She is bred by W. Goesten.
Broodmare and Sport Horse
Darabel has a prominent career as broodmare and sport horse. She was purchased by Willeke Bos of Stal 104 at the 2008 Prinsjesdag Foal Auction and went on to become the 4-year old champion at the KWPN Mare Championships.
She has been flushed numerous times for embryotransfer and has no less than 15 publicly recorded offspring on the ground. In 2015 she produced two licensed sons: the KWPN licensed stallion Kilimanjaro, which sold to Australian Jessica Dertell, and the AES licensed stallion Kityikana (by All at Once). She has also produced four elite KWPN mares: Inebel Taonga (by Negro), Irabel (by Charmeur), Jarabel (by Charmeur) and Karabel (by Ebony).
Darabel was initially trained by Vai Bruntink. In 2014 they were the reserve champions in the 2014 KNHS Subli Championships and were selected to represent KWPN and The Netherlands at the 2014 World Young Horse Championships in Verden, Germany, where they placed 14th in the consolation finals for 6-year olds.

Youth Riders Horse
In December 2021 the ride on Darabel was allocated to Dutch young rider Joanne Koch, who competed her at international young riders level for two years. Koch and Darabel were nominated on the Dutch team for the 2022 European Young Riders Championships in Hartpury, where the pair finished 47th in the individual test with 62.941%. They were 8th at the 2022 Dutch Young Riders Championships. Koch last showed Darabel internationally at the CDI Geesteren in June 2023.
Darabel had a two-year break from international showing and briefly returned in April 2025 at the CDI Tolbert, followed by the CDI Exloo, under Lara van Nek at young riders level. They finished 6th at the 2025 Dutch Young Riders Championships.
Junior Schoolmaster
The ride on Darabel has now been given to Dutch junior rider Kyra Hingstman. The 18-year old Hingstman is in her last year as a junior and will need to make the transition to young riders level in 2026.

Hingstman trains with Marten Luiten, who rode Willeke Bos' Fynona to the European Young Riders Champion's title in 2020 and 2021. Fynona has disappeared from the scene since the summer of 2024.
