Spanish professional dressage rider Cristina Wagemans Rovira is leaving her base, Annabelle Collins' Can Alzina, to continue as an independent rider and trainer at a new barn.

The 29-year old Wagemans worked under the wings of Collins' husband Agusti Elias for almost seven years at this livery yard, where several trainers have their base.

Wagemans' international career began as a junior rider in 2013 aboard the Dutch bred Royal Cup (by Amulet x Dublin). She showed him at CDI's in Toledo, Madrid and Hickstead.

Four years later she returned to the international stage with 6-year old Gigi (by Apache x Farrington).

She began to ride professionally at Can Alzina in 2019. She received the ride on Collins' KWPN bred Ellington (by Jazz x Silvano N) with whom she made her CDI debut at small tour level in Segovia in May 2019. With Collins' KWPN bred Dreamboat (by Voice x Metall) she first represented Spain at the 2020 European Under 25 Championships in Pilisjaszfalu, where she finished 21st in the short Grand Prix with 66.974%. She also won the 2020 Spanish Under 25 Championships with him. Dreamboat sold to Thailand shortly afterwards.

Ellington's ownership transferred to Cristina in 2020 according to the FEI and Ellington took her to the 2021 European Under 25 Championships in Hagen, where she was 25th with 65.590% in the short Grand Prix. She regained the title at the 2021 Spanish Under 25 Championships. As of 2022 she showed him in the senior big tour until the autumn of 2024. In 2024 she also showed the young stallion Damasco PI at the CDI's in Madrid and Las Cadenas.

Cristina rode only one international in 2025: the CDI Jerez de la Frontera with Emma Bonned's 7-year old KWPN bred Newport (by Don Juan de Hus x Charmeur). With Ellington she was 21st in the Special and 11th in the Kur at the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix Championships.

A New Barn

Over the 6 years that she has been riding at Can Alzina, Wagemans built her own clientele and business. She is now moving to a new barn in the vicinity of Barcelona.

Cristina Wagemans in 2021
"Today I closed the most important stage of my life," Wagemans took to Instagram on 1 October 2025. "Thank you Agusti and Annabelle for giving me the opportunity to be part of your team during all this time. Especially to Agustí, for always taking me in like the little piece of the family I've been missing. For helping me, training, training me, fulfilling dreams, trusting horses and projects. Since I started working here my life turned upside down in every way and my professional career as an Amazon took off winning medals and fulfilling dreams that in life I would have imagined achieving. Apart from having shared the path with the most amazing and special horses in the world that I will always carry with me. Thank you Can Alzina for being my home for almost 7 years, for giving me wings and letting me fly."
