From 18 to 21 September 2025 the Austrian Warmblood Breeding Association (AWÖ) stages its annual highlight at the traditional Stadl-Paura equestrian centre.

The AWÖ Bundeschampionat brings together the nation’s best young horses, with more than 400 entries competing across four days. For dressage breeders and riders, the event has become the most important showcase of Austria’s rising stars.

Spotlight on Dressage Talent

The 2025 edition introduces a new dressage class for 6- and 7-year-old horses at M-level, creating a bridge towards the higher performance sport and giving breeders the chance to see their offspring progressing on the pathway to FEI level. In addition, Austrian-bred riding ponies will have their own dressage division for the first time, underlining the association’s commitment to broadening the base of young dressage prospects.

Over the four days, the program ranges from foal and young horse championships with rider and guest rider tests, to sport horse classes in dressage up to advanced levels. For breeders, it is an invaluable opportunity to follow bloodlines from foal to sport horse in a single venue.

The highlight for dressage aficionados comes on Saturday, 20 September, with the premiere of the Hybrid Foal Auction in the Karl Bauer Halle. For the first time, AWÖ combines the glamour of a live auction with the convenience of online and telephone bidding.

The collection has been selected in a rigorous two-step process:

  • Ten foals chosen during professional filming and photo days
  • Plus the two best colts and fillies from the Bundeschampionat’s foal finals in both dressage and show jumping.
Dressage Foals with International Pedigrees

The first ten foals online already reveal the strength of Austrian dressage breeding:

  • “Valerio”, a Landeschampionat winner with two perfect 10.0 scores, out of the same dam as World Championship and Grand Prix horses
  • “Jux & Tollerei”, a filly with marks up to 9.7 and a pedigree studded with Grand Prix performers
  • “Bon Laurie”, a colt out of an S-level proven mare and full brother to a 2021 auction top seller
  • “Broadmoars Fortunato”, an eye-catching mover with a 9.0 for trot
  • “Valentino de Rossi”, another foal praised with championship-winning 10.0 scores.

These young horses represent the refinement, rideability and performance orientation that Austrian breeding has increasingly become known for in the international dressage scene.

Tradition Meets Innovation

Auctioneer Volker Raulf of Mennrath’s will lead the sale, ensuring each foal is presented with flair. Guests may attend the gala in person – complete with dinner tables offering a direct view onto the auction ring – or join remotely via the online platform.

With its combination of top-class dressage breeding, innovative auction format, and sport classes that trace the development from foal to FEI horse, the AWÖ Bundeschampionat 2025 positions Stadl-Paura firmly on the international map for dressage breeding.
