PRE Horses Selected for the 2025 World Championships for Young Dressage Horses

ANCCE, the Spanish PRE breed society, had announced the horses that will represent their breed and Spain at the 2025 World Championships for young dressage horses in Verden on 6 - 10 August 2025.

ANCCE held its final selection trial at last weekend's CDI-YH Segovia after which selector Jose Daniel Martin Dockx made his final pick of PRE horses.

The Selection Process

For Spanish team selection, candidate combinations needed to have achieved: either two CDI scores, or 1 CDI score + 1 CDN score with international judges, or 1 CDI score / 1 Masters score.

The CDI-YH in Segovia on 12 - 14 June 2025 was a mandatory CDI, where international judges Clive Halsall, Alice Schwab, and Maria Colliander assessed the horses, which led to very fluctuating scores between the preliminary and finals test.

Pairs that fulfilled the selection minimum were invited to the training camp on Sunday 15 June 2025, where selector Jose Daniel Martin Dockx made the final pick.

Fifteen Slots for Spain, Will All be Filled?

Due to the size of the Spanish studbooks (amount of foals per year), Spain has five slots per age division, and will fill them first with PRE bred horses, then with CDE horses and if not all slots are filled, the Spanish equestrian federation (RFHE) can select riders on foreign bred horses to represent Spain in Verden.

Of the 15 slots available for Spain, the PRE has taken 10 of them, which means ANCADES can fill up five more slots although initial reports state that there will only be 2 CDE horses selected - one 5-year old and one 7-year old.

This means that the RFHE could have 3 slots allocated to foreign bred horses if the RFHE chooses to send them.

Dockx picked 10 PRE's for Verden.

Interestingly only one horse from the 2024 delegation was able to get reselected this year: Verso de Susaeta. It will be Verso's third consecutive WCYH. All other 6 and 7-year olds are newcomers.
