The American have landed in Germany and German born American Kevin Kohmann captured the first trophy on day one of the 2025 Covalliero Dressage Days at Hof Kasselmann in Hagen on Thursday 5 June 2025.

American Euro Tour

Each year the U.S. Equestrian Federation sends a delegation of high performance dressage riders to Europe for exposure, mileage and scores. This year's group contains all the usual faces with the only surprise maybe being the absence of Adrienne Lyle (and her students Duerrhammer, Simonson and Iverson). After having been to Europe for the 2025 World Cup Finals in Basel, where the ride did not go according to plan, Lyle decided to stay grounded in the USA and spend time training in all quietness at their summer base in Colorado.

For the USA 2025 is an "off year" with no summer championship at stake.

Kohmann Wins

World Cup companion Kevin Kohmann is making the most out of his partnership with Terri Kane's 16-year old Hanoverian Dunensee (by Dancier x Davignon) and is back in Europe for the third year in a row. At the CDI Hagen they topped the board with a 71.370%. All five judges placed him first.

"I didn't expect this today," said Kohmann. "He just gets better and better - what a journey it has been with this special horse."

American Top Four

Second place went to Kasey Perry-Glass (USA) with her 13-year old KWPN bred Heartbeat W.P. (by Charmeur x Ferro). They had a bobble in the transition to passage and zig zag and finished on a 69.456% score.

Ben Ebeling (USA) and the 15-year old Hanoverian mare Bellena (by Belissimo M x Welser) were third with 68.739%, while U.S. Team Olympian Marcus Orlob (USA) and Alice Tarjan's sensitive mare Jane (by Desperado x Metall) landed fourth place with 68.261%. Orlob's score dropped significantly when the mare reared and spun in the halt at entry and there was a bobble in the ones.

The best German pair was Nicole Wego-Engelmeyer and Carrie Schopf's Citation (by Zack x Don Gregory) in eighth place with 65.609%.

Riding Towards Aachen

The three-star tour in Hagen a.T.W. is an important qualifier for the US dressage team for the Nations Cup in Aachen at the end of June.

"In the last few weeks since Basel, we have focussed a lot on getting more calmness and relaxation into our riding. That actually paid off very well today and I am immensely pleased. I am now one step closer to Aachen," revealed Kohmann afterwards.

Covalliero Dressage Days with CPEDI

The Covalliero Dressage Days from 5 to 8 June offer four days of dressage sport at the very highest level. Participants from 16 nations have entered for the multi-faceted sports programme consisting of CDI3*, CDI1*, CDIU25 and CDIYH.

The Covalliero Dressage Days are also the second show that the Kasselmann family is organising specifically for para-riders. The para competitions are held in Grade I to V at international two and three-star level and have attracted a high-calibre field of participants to the Osnabrück region.

This is also confirmed by the current number one in the world rankings, Fiona Howard (USA), who won three gold medals at her Paralympic debut in Paris last year. She has her Olympic partner Diamond Dunes with her.

"The line-up is even stronger than last year, all the good riders from Germany, Denmark, Great Britain, the Netherlands and the USA are here. I'm primarily competing to have fun. In addition to Diamond Dunes, I will also be presenting my young horse for the first time," Howard explains.

Hybrid Auction

Incidentally, Howard purchased her future young star two years ago at the Hof Kasselmann & Schockemöhle Hybrid Auction, which will also take place this year as part of the Future Champions youth competition on 14 June.
