Nelson Aleluia Hospitalized After Riding Accident

Portuguese professional dressage rider Nelson Aleluia has been hospitalized on Monday morning 11 March 2024 following an accident with a horse. 

Aleluia works for Italy's leading dressage horse breeding farm, Fonte Abeti, in Sansepolcro, Italy.

Riding Accident

Fonte Abeti communicated on Monday evening that, "this morning our rider Nelson Alleluia was involved in a bad accident on horseback resulting in some fractures. (..). We all hope that he gets back on the saddle soon and that we see him in the competition as soon as possible. Come on Nelson we are all with you."

Aleluia is hospitalized in Siena (ITA) where he is receiving treatment. Nelson told Eurodressage he broke two ribs and his cheekbone.

From Portugal to Italy

Nelson Aleluia Ramos took up horse riding at the age of 16 and did the three-year programme to become a professional rider. He first worked for Portuguese Olympic rider Miguel Ralao for six years before moving to Fonte Abeti in Italy in 2017.

Aleluia made his international show debut in 2022 at the CDI Ornago aboard the then 7-year pld Elektra di Fonte Abeti (by Franklin x De Niro), who is now sold to swedish Olympian Juliette Ramel. That year he further competed young horses internationally, including Glicine di Fonteabeti (by Franklin x Sir Donnerhall), Henry di Fonteabeti (by Valdere x Don Frederico), and Fortuna di Fonteabeti (by Apache x Christ).

In May 2023 he made his international small tour debut in Ornago aboard Ecuador di Fonteabeti (by Negro x Sir Donnerhall) who was previous competed by Frederico Mexia and Daniel Pinto.

Nationally Nelson rode Happy Days di Fonte Abeti to gold in the 2022 Italian Young Horse Championships. The horse sold to Helgstrand Dressage at the end of 2022 and became the 2023 Bundeschampion under Maxi Kira von Platen.
