Spanish Olympian Severo Jurado Lopez is trading in Denmark for Germany. On 15 September 2023 he will officially move to Riesenbeck with his business.

The 36-year old Jurado began his international competition career as a young rider, representing Spain at the 2008 and 2009 European Young Riders Championships.

His professional riding career started at Jan Nivelle's in Germany from 2009 till 2011. He then moved to Van Olst Horses in The Netherlands, for whom he rode for 2.5 years

10 Years in Denmark

The Spaniard moved to Denmark to work for Andreas Helgstrand in September 2013.  At the beginning of October 2014 Severo announced he agreed to return to Van Olst in Holland, also to be "to be closer to his girlfriend", but Helgstrand made a counter-offer and Severo stayed Denmark with his girlfriend, German Annika Damrau, moving there.

With Lorenzo he rode the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, with Fiontini he became a triple young horse world champion. Deep Impact  took him to the 2017 European Dressage Championships in Gothenburg and 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon. With D'Avie he won gold at the 2018 and 2019 World Young Horse Championships.

In 2020 Jurado left Helgstrand to set up his own shop at small yard in Dronninglund in the north of Jutland, Denmark. Damrau gave birth to their first child, a daughter Paula, on 1 July 2021. Severo competed Van Olst's Fendi T at the 2021 Olympic Games and European Championships.

Move to Germany

Severo's new base in Riesenbeck
Jurado announced today he's moving to Riesenbeck in Westfalia, where the biggest concentration of dressage horses and riders can be found in Germany.

"We have found the perfect barn in Riesenbeck from family Möllers," Severo explained. "Much more close to competitions and trainers, we’re certain this will be a benefit for everyone".

He continued, "the time, friends and memories are unforgettable from Denmark and we’ll keep the great connections and will visit regularly. In Germany we’re excited to meet new people and also old friends again. Its fantastic too that our team didn’t hesitate and will follow us along, as well as all clients and sponsors. Thanks for your understanding, trust and support."

The couple is also welcoming their second child in November.
