The 3-year old stallion Valparaiso has tested positive to medication at the 2023 Hanoverian Stallion Approval on 4 April 2023.
Valparaiso is a Viva Gold x Fidermark x Davignon, bred by Rebekka Aicher. He is owned by the Celle state stud, which acquired him for 200,000 euro at the auction of the 2022 Westfalian Stallion Licensing in Munster. Valparaiso was one of two reserve champions of the licensing.
Positive
On 4 April 2023 he was presented and accepted for breeding at the Hanoverian approval. However, the blood sample returned and tested positive to medication.
Two substances were found that are prohibited at licensings/approvals, i.e. sulfadimethoxine and trimethoprim. They are antibiotics for the treatment of early-stage infections. Primary and secondary infections of the respiratory system, the gastrointestinal tract and the urinary and genitals are indicated as areas of application.
Celle Statement
The Celle State Stud issued a statement on the matter
"Valparaiso wasn't sick, so we didn't give him any antibiotics," Celle stated who explained that Valparaiso is stationed in Adelheidsdorf on only left the premises twice: once for a stallion show and once for the approval.
"In the period in question, only one stallion received Synutrim powder in a different stable lane. The stable aisles are spatially clearly separated from each other. There is no sulfadimethoxine in Synutrim. This preparation contains the active substance sulfadiazine. The proven active substance sulfadimethoxine is also not contained in the other preparation Equibactin vet that we otherwise use. It can thus be ruled out that the Valparaiso stallion came into contact with the active substance sulfadimethoxine in the stallion testing institute."
Valparaiso will re-preset Valparaiso for Hanoverian approval as soon as possible.
