British Dressage is delighted to announce the introduction of a brand new training opportunity for para dressage riders.

After identifying a gap in the training structure for national British para dressage riders, British Dressage has established the Para Academy pathway to provide an additional training and education opportunity across all grades.

The Para Academy, made up of two two-day camps, endeavour to support the development of grassroots para dressage riders, with the following activity offered:

  • Test riding
  • Ridden coaching
  • Rider profiling and goal setting
  • Rider physiotherapy
  • Equine nutrition
  • Master saddlers talk
  • Evening talks and demonstrations
  • Rider development portfolios

Supported by a dedicated network of BD affiliated coaches and professionals, the pathway is ideal for those wishing to develop their skills and progress through the national para dressage structure. The Para Academy is also a promising step towards the BEF Podium Potential Pathway programmes for athletes aspiring towards international and team competition.

British Dressage Para Director Tracy Ormrod commented, "the launch of the first Para Academy is an exciting development for para riders aiming to progress through the levels and develop their skills. The team have created an opportunity that provides first rate access to excellent quality training, coaches and equestrian professionals in a friendly, supportive environment. We look forward to the first events taking place in the autumn."

The two-day camps will take place in October and April, with applications opening on Monday 1 May and closing on Tuesday 1 August. The cost for those taking part will be £280.
