Matthias and Gestüt Schafhof have decided not to stand Grand Prix horses Destacado FRH and Thiago OLD at stud in 2023. The horse's main focus will be sport and competition.

Rath announced his decision on Instagram.

Destacado FRH

Matthias' number one in the barn is the 10-year old Hanoverian stallion Destacado FRH (by Desperados  x Londonderry).

They won silver at the World Young Horse Championship and the title at the 2020 Nurnberger Burgpokal for Developing PSG horses. In 2021 the pair competed on the Louisdor Cup circuit for Developing Grand Prix horses and won on their international Grand Prix debut at the CDI Crozet.

In 2022  the chestnut put himself in the race of German team consideration for the World Championships in Herning after he scored 75.217% at the CDI Mannheim, but then sustained a minor injury which sidelined him for the summer. They returned to compete at the CDI's Le Mans, Stuttgart and Frankfurt, winning five out of six classes.

Thiago GS

Thiago GS is a 10-year old Oldenburg stallion by Totilas out of Ann Kathrin Linsenhoff's retired international Grand Prix mare Wahajama (by Warkant).

The black became a premium stallion at the 2016 South German Stallion Licensing. In 2018 he competed at the Bundeschampionate as a 5-year old, finishing 16th in the finals. .He made his international small tour debut in 2021 and his Grand Prix debut in March 2022. Last year he competed at  CDI's in Ornago, Troisdorf, Munich, Wiesbaden, Kronberg, Crozet and Fot, winning both classes at the latter show.

Sport not Breeding

For 2023 Destacado and Thiago will be focused on sport with the 2023 European Championships in Riesenbeck as target.

"We decided to only offer them via frozen semen so that both stallions can fully focus on the development in sport," Matthias explained. "Desti and Thiago have such incredible quality for Grand Prix sport and we want them to be able to show that in the best possible way."

Matthias added, "I'm very much looking forward to the exciting show season, which for sure will bring one or the other highlight. This weekend I'll be riding at the Aachen Festival 4 Dressage CDI while Thiago will have his season debut in Compiègne."
