Markus Becker Passed Away

German dressage rider and trainer Markus Becker passed away on 6 December 2022 after a long illness. 

Bavaria

Becker went to school in his home town Willemshaven and studied at the University in Osnabruck, but decided on a life with horses. 

For many years Becker was based in Grosshelfendorf at a yard which is now known as Reitsport Zentrum München Ost.

He began competing in 1981 with a horse named Vincent van Gogh (by Vollkorn xx x Adrian), combining dressage with show jumping. He also evented with for instance Louison (by Leutnant x Hassan) and Paul Rex (by Perlkonig x Dompfaff).

His career marking Grand Prix horse was Sainte Germaine (by Rubinstein x Sendbote) which took him into his first Grand Prix test in 2000. Based in the south of Germany he often competed horses in Austrian national shows. 

Hofgut Allerer

Becker moved barns to Hofgut Allerer.  He competed his last horses at internationals show in the mid 2010s.  In 2011 he rode Rastede (by Rubinstein x Rio Zeus) at Grand Prix level at the CDI Munich and peoduced the former World Young Horse Champion Roval Investment (by Investment x Uniek) to Grand Prix level for owner Susanne Beck. 

At Hofgut Allerer he came in contact with Valerie Brenske-von Hohenzollern who give him the ride on Findus as well as her Milou (by Future x Haarlem), the horse Becker competed in his last international dressage show in August 2016 in Lamprechtshausen, Austria. 

His last year in the show ring was 2019 when he rode Marta Pena Montaner's then 5-year old Game of Thrones (by Grey Flanell x De Niro) and Christine Arns-Krogman's Soiree d'Ete (by San Amour x Latimer).

Becker followed Brenske in her move north to Haus Giesking in Westfalia in 2020, but after one year they left the facility and returned back south to Gut Feichten in Bad Tölz.

Becker was also known as an accomplished trainer. One of his most prolific students is German international Grand Prix rider Franz Trischberger.
