Four months after her international Grand Prix debut, Anne Meulendijks had to say goodbye to Issey. The horse has been sold to the U.S.A.

Originally named Issey Myake, the 9-year old KWPN gelding (by Johnson out of Rumora (by Rubinstein x Nooitgedacht) is bred by A. Hummel-van der Wal and was owned by Anky van Grunsven.

Issey's sport career began under Dutch national rider Aniek Schuiling, who trained and competed the horse for the breeder.

When riding in a clinic with Rien van der Schaft, the horse was spotted by scouts and pitched to Van Grunsven, who purchased the gelding in the spring of 2017.

In 2020 Anky's working student Jade Oord rode him before Meulendijks took over in the winter of 2021

A student of Sjef Janssen, Meulendijks was in search of a successor for her 2019 Dutch team horse Avanti, whom she retired from international Grand Prix sport in the summer of 2021 and passed on the ride to Dutch junior rider Evi van Rooij in February 2022.

Issey is the second horse that Meulendijks saw being sold right after their international Grand Prix debut. In June 2019 her ride, the Fiechter family's Edison (by Johnson), got sold to Belgian Laurence Vanommeslaghe after the CDI Kronenberg.

Anne and Issey made their CDI debut in June 2022 at the small CDI Geesteren, where they won the Grand Prix with 71.348% and the Special with 72.659%.

Meulendijks confirmed the sale of the horse to the U.S.A on Instagram. Beatrice Marienau is the new owner.
