Governor, a KWPN licensed stallion and Adelinde Cornelissen's 2021 European Championship Dutch team ride, has been gelded.

Horses.nl broke the news today and owner Korbeld has confirmed the gelding.  "What shall I say, sport takes priority. We never made a secret out of that," he said.

Governor is an 11-year old Dutch warmblood from the first crop of Totilas' offspring born in 2011. His dam is Orleans (by Jazz x Ulft) and he is bred by 2020 KWPN Breeder of the Year Jan Streppel.

Success from the Start

Governor stood out from the start of his career.

He was the reserve champion of the 2014 KWPN Stallion Licensing, finishing behind Glamourdale, and winner of the 2014 KWPN Autumn Stallion Performance Testing with 85.5 points.

Owned by Ger Korbeld, Governor was trained by Adelinde Cornelissen from the start and the pair finished fifth at the 2016 World Young Horse Championships and won double silver at the 2017 and 2018 World YH Championships in Ermelo.

Grand Prix Career

In 2021 the pair made its international Grand Prix debut at the CDI Opglabbeek in Belgium, posting 74.978%. They were selected on the Dutch team for the 2021 European Dressage Championships in Hagen, where they placed 18th in the Special but were eliminated from the Kur because of blood in the mouth.

Cornelissen has not competed Governor internationally since then.

As a breeding stallion he has already sired 14 licensed sons in different breed registeries, including KWPN licensing champion Kremlin MD, who sold to Andreas Helgstrand in Denmark, where he stands up for stud but has no real career in sport. Other licensed sons are Keano RS2 (Marieke van der Putten), Koning (Emmelie Scholtens), and Kayne (Adelinde Cornelissen), amongst others. Governor was a very popular breeding stallion in his younger years and produced a high number of foals. Successful offspring in sport are Gardenart (Csaba Szokola), Kind Pleasure (Femke de Laat), and Golden Romance de Malleret PS (Helen Langehanenberg).
