American aspiring Under 25 rider Callie O'Connell has welcomed Japanese Grand Prix horse Eaton H into her barn at BerryField Dressage in Lincoln, MA.

Her sponsor Betsy Dangel acquired two internationally competed Grand Prix horses in fact: Eaton H as a U25 schoolmaster for Callie, and Deduschka Moros as her own schoolmaster.

"Frosty (Deduschka) is a perfect schoolmaster for Betsy; we knew he was that special horse when we first sat on him," BerryField Dressage took to Facebook. "Callie fell in love with Eaton at first sight; their goal is competing in the U25! Now the work begins building trust and skill between horse and rider."

Eaton H

Eaton H is a 13-year old Dutch warmblood gelding by Wynton out of Ziolita H (by San Remo). He is bred by Mr Hoeflaken and was initially owned, trained and competed by Esmee van Gijtenbeek. She competed him up to national Under 25 level in Holland before selling him.

In August 2017, Eaton H sold to a sponsor of Japanese Olympian Masanao Takahashi as his 2020 Tokyo Olympic hopeful and the horse received the sponsor prefix Unitechno to his name. Masanao made his international show debut with Eaton at the 2019 CDI Wellington and competed him until March 2020 right before the corona outbreak.

Japanese team trainer Christoph Koschel took over the ride and campaigned Eaton in Europe later in 2020 and took him to Wellington for the 2021 Global Dressage Festival. Takahashi competed his second horse Rubicon in two more shows in Europe in Hagen (May 2021) and has since then disappeared from the show scene. Eaton's last show was with Koschel in Herzlake in June 2021.

Deduschka Moros is a 10-year old Hanoverian by Diamond Hit out of Rose Cocktail (by Royal Diamond). The Wiesbadener Jugendwerkstatt is registered as his breeder and he was owned by Janna Jochheim.  His name is Russian for Santa Claus.

The grey gelding was first shown in Germany as a 4-year old by the owner's trainer, Lena Waldmann, before Janna took over the ride herself. The two swapped rides as the horse progressed up the levels all the way to Grand Prix.

Under Waldmann the horse was 37th in the 5-year old consolation finals at the 2017 Bundeschampionate and 18th in the consolation at the 2018 Bundeschampionate.

In 2020 he made his international show debut under Waldmann in Herzlake in the medium tour. He did one more international in 2021 in Zandhoven, also at medium tour level. The horse's last show in Germany before selling was in January 2022 in Elmshorn at Grand Prix level under Waldmann.

Callie O'Connell

American youth rider Callie O'Connell is from from Wilmington, MA and began competing in 2011 on the Welsh cob bred pony The Night Sky Pilot and Dutch warmblood Zaphrio.

Eaton and Deduschka Moros arrived at BerryField
Her first sportive successes were in 2014 when she competed at the North American Junior Riders Championships on Tribaldi (by Gribaldi x Venatoe). She placed 35th in the individual test with 58.474%. The NAJRC was her first and only international so far.

O'Connell's riding progressed as she began working with and for Jane Karol at Bear Spot Farm as an assistant rider.   In 2018 she was part of the four American young riders on the DTF Young Rider International Dream Program that travelled to Europe to attend the CHIO Aachen and soak up the European competition atmosphere. Her last competition rides were in 2021 on B.B. King and Jennifer Silver's Oldenburg gelding Furst Story (by Furst Heinrich x Rohdiamant).

Callie graduated as a Bachelor in fashion design from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2021. She seems to have chosen a career in horses though and half a year ago relocated to Betsy Dangel's BerryField dressage.
